This game has been lacking population for a long time. But you are also talking to a censored community. Remember people using extra help to win on here> And how they denied it was that bad for so long, then they finally had to come out an admit it was a real issue?
Consider that the same mind frame people are in when you make a post against anything anyone else wants to hear. Alot of people only play with the exact same people every time they log in, they don't see any of the extra parts of the game. So it is a ignorance is bliss state of gameplay. But yes, it is has been on a down fall for a while. If there were 5 people playing, they still would be using excuses, and saying it is so alive. Just like the example I used up there. While steam isn't a huge go by for this game, the statistic system with those analytics say a whole lot, but then they will say that achievements didn't get recorded etc..
If you were saying this in season 7 or seasons leading into 7 I think it would be more in line with what was happening.
If you were saying the cheesing and bugs are out of control in season 11, that would make sense.
This post in season 15 doesn't much fly, imo. For a few reasons.
Console play seems to be very very healthy compared to PC play. Controller servers are still pretty darn active for the season, people appear to be at least somewhat excited for spears. A good season for organic play, it's rare to have a good organic play season but this is one of them.
They've just been going down the twitter list of feedback in the last 6 months or so, So even twitter world has a lot less sot drama as they feel more heard by devs.
This isn't to say that SoT is in some amazing state but it's def better than it usually is, pretty much all around the community and with many different types of feedback groups.
They've had some misses with messaging and game changes in the last 6+ months but overall I think it's at least in stable condition.
Two things can be true, they have a lot of work to do to improve weak spots in the game, and the game is still doing well while that happens.
I've had pretty much non-stop encounters with solid-very skilled adventure crews this entire season. Not just sweaty hoppers, adventure crews doing their thing, that's pretty rare to see. That's more interest at the experienced level.
