Ban Appeals

  • Though i personally have not been banned I feel like this should at least be considered. For my personal SoT experience I had a friend banned who still had FoV slider yes, but had it at 90 since he was making SoT videos and really only got banned because people reported him on claims originally being based on aimbot and such which i know for a fact are false accusations. I believe he deserves a second chance along with other people. One example would be Theb who got banned for MC hacks being linked on his account as a joke. The issue I think that you (the Rare team) may have with that is toxicity based bans and such that Microsoft have a zero tolerance policy on, but if at all possible i believe those people deserve second chances as well. For actual hackers who just don't care, bans don't affect them as they were already banned, likely in the toxicity ban waves, or have easy ways to evade anyways. Making perma-bans unappealable just locks away second chances for the people who don't fully commit to hacking (Like my fov slider friend) instead of actually preventing full time hackers from hacking as they would rather make an alt than go through appeals just to get banned again. It may even solve a lot of hacking issues as a whole because as stated a lot of hackers come from the toxicity ban waves back in the Arena days meaning if they could appeal to get their main accounts back they'd likely stop to preserve what they lost once already. I know this isn't a prevalent issue and a lot of players would likely disagree with me because of the amount of hackers, but I see it as a larger issue than hacking itself. Look, SoT is a dying game and we just lost hundreds of super sweats who were dedicated because they thought SoT was CoD and loved double gunning so to soft block players who are a no issue to the health of the game hacking wise is just abcolutely idiotic and will kill the game more. this is coming from a launch player by the way meaning I do know what I'm talking about and have been through the game's darkest eras without major breaks like most launch players. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this and let me know if you hadn't thought about this until now, the more people who side with me the more likely appeals will get added which, in theory, could take a massive load off the ban team and Rare team as a whole. I will say one thing though, give the players a one week break from detection of hardware unless they get validly reported. This will allow them to get rid of hardware before their only second chance runs out, but to ensure no abuse still follow up on reports, but especially for things like FoV slider that may have just been left on on accident and is at 90 FoV it should be a warning followed by the end of your second chance.

  • Too bad we don't have the ability to trade.

I would ask for your friends stuff 🤣

    1. Holy wall of text. Please format for easier reading?
    2. How do you know SoT is dying?
    3. How do you know they just lost 'hundreds' of players?
    4. What does your play time have to do with anything?
    5. If someone was linking hacks, joke or no, they kind of deserve it if they get caught.
    6. If someone is using hacks, regardless of how YOU 'feel they deserve a second chance' (Which, BTW; there could be a bias there since they are your friend), they still deserve to get banned. Because they were using hack. How much they were hacking is irrelevant.
    7. If Rare ever added appealing; That's more workload, not less, because they now have to respond to appeals, 99% of which would be legit hackers saying 'I got banned for no reason!' How do I know this? I used to be an admin in a multi-server clan (TF2, CS:GO, Medal of Honor, etc. etc.). 99% of our bans were people cheating, us recording video of them cheating, and them appealing with 'I did nothing wrong. That admin just hates me.' Because cheaters lie.
  • People mess up, I've messed up a lot in other ways so I'm never here to give people a tough time about it.

We are guests though and if they decide we aren't welcome that's just the way it goes.

Lots of other games and experiences out there. Just gotta find something new when it's time to move on.

    1. Sorry, but I could care less if you don't think i formatted properly. This was written as a paragraph not a list so the formatting is fine.
    2. SoT has had a very low concurrent player amount for a while now and its mostly long time players who stay as new player either leave in rage or don't like the game.
    3. I know because i see people talk about it. If you have gone to comment sections on videos, especially Theb videos and other sweat based creator videos, these players are not happy about the quickswap removal and are leaving the game because of it.
    4. I never stated my playtime i stated how long i have had the game for and that I played through it throughput that time. Playtime has nothing to do with it as oyu could have had the game for half the time I have and have more hours than me. No, this note was for context I do care for the game and aren't spitting out things that i don't think are relavent.
    5. They weren't even SoT hacks they were Minecraft hacks. I don't care for Theb anymore because he ended up being one of the SoT players who just wanted to play CoD like I said. He was a 13-14 y/o at the time and made a mistake i don't think he should be judged in the future for that.
    6. I don't have bias for my friend I'd extend this to anyone. I never knew there was no appeal system, but then he got banned not only on false allegations, but for a thing he wasn't even technically using. it frightens me that if I got banned with him that could have been it. All the hours spent gone in a second because someone got mad and they detected FoV slider with no way to tell if it was ay 90 or not. I'd even extend this to an aimbotter because I believe anyone can change their ways. Also if he had deleted FoV slider they wouldn't have detected it meaning your point on it not mattering on how much they were hacking is kinda pointless since it wouldn't have been a ban in the first place if not for his mistake.
    7. This is a good point, there would be consistent hackers that would want to do this, but I have to disagree with a bit. As highlighted in my original statement the hacker problem first started when people lost their mains to toxicity ban waves. If these people could get their mains back they would likely either stop or they would continue and just get banned again anyways. Like i also said SoT has tons of ways to ban evade as evident by the fact that despite the countless bans people still get on with alts. TF2 and CS:GO to my knowledge have much better prevention though I can't say anything for Medal of Honor. Like I said this could be a dissuading factor, but I don't see the bonuses for people who would continue to hack to just not make an alt account especially with SoT's lackluster prevention.

These are good points except for the formatting complaint as 1. it doesn't even belong here I don't care how you think something should be formatted and 2. the formatting has no issues its a simple paragraph.

  • @wolfmanbush I know, but it really sucks. Not only is it affecting my friend, but it also affects me as we had lots of fun times. I just can't imagine that this is happening to so many people as my friend found numerous people going on about not being able to appeal on false accusations. I'll be the first to admit he should have deleted FoV slider and i should have told him too, but I do not think the punishment fits the crime.

You're still friends and there are still other ways to spend time together. Consequences are tough but they are the reality of the situation. There are other games though, not the answer you want but it's the one that'll end up working out more effectively for the situation.
