Hunters Call Emissary and Voyages coming! [CONFIRMED]

  • So it finally happened!

During Rare’s panel at EGX at the weekend, Mike Chapman confirmed that some sort of emissary system for Hunter’s Call and voyages were coming soon! I’m not 100% on the details of when and how, so I won’t confirm anything that way, but you can all rejoice now!

  • Honestly, the fact hunter's call and Reaper's bones both appear on the voyage system despite not having voyages was a good hint that voyages based on them were going to pop up sooner or later.

  • I hope the voyages of choice won’t ruin something’s. Like able to hunt any megs you want.(looking at your shrouded) But if they add kraken voyages :o

"people can finally find things, instead of being a victim of luck and rng" is such a nonsense thing to suggest ruins anything.

Luck, rng, effort, and experience are what hunting is. What you seem to be supporting is farming kills.

The game is full of farming and cheesing, it only has a few things to hunt and box of secrets was turned into an event item so there is even less significance in hunting now.

My hope would be that they don't kill off hunting in favor of farming for a hunting faction.

They could add to and expand the faction without turning it into just another thing for people to farm.

This season is the first time in a long time that they appear to have made some improvements to the meg timer. It's much more consistent right now than it has been. That would be a good direction to go. Improving the timer while adding whatever they are gonna add.

As far as "people shouldn't have to..." goes,

I didn't HG because it wasn't for me, I didn't do half of the BB comms because they weren't for me. That style shouldn't be removed just because it's not for me and the same goes for hunting as a style in SoT.

  • @the-old-soul800 what people fail to realise is the very thing that makes everyone want the shrouded ghost is it's rarity. All the calls for upping spawn rate etc makes it completely worthless. Where everything in the game has been made easier I do hope the devs leave the shrouded as is.

  • @hiradc while you are right the shrouded is soooo friggin elusive is insane, i have thousands of hours in the game (6.6k total) of course the ghost wasnt there in the beginning but still i havent even had a glimpse of that one.

I cant imagine ever completing the commendation for killing it 5 times in the athena tab.

  • @callmebackdraft I get that it kills the completionists but I think it's kinda cool. I have had one but it's not something I'm massively proud of as aware it was pure luck.

  • Yeah I don’t think we’re gonna be able to farm the shrouded ghost.

  • Posted a thread a while ago - would love a voyage to be able to track down megalodons/krakens and YES, allow them to be counted towards the commendations.

Megalodons are on a timer - they spawn every 90 minutes as long as you are in open water, haven't sunk, and didn't server merge. There is no mystery or RNG behind their spawning mechanic. Go sit at an island for an hour and a half and sail away - you'll get a meg. The only thing RNG about it is which meg you get.

There is no hunt. It's literally just timer based. Here's a few reasons why this is a bad design:

    • There are players that don't have that long to play everyday. They might only come on for an hour a day after work. Rare has been making changes to SOT to allow quicker sessions for these kinds of players.
    • You might be someone that plays hourglass (server swapping all the time).
    • You might be a player that sinks a lot and can't survive very long.
    • You can get an unlucky server merge which resets your timer.

Which means these players will NEVER get a meg spawn because they never meet the spawn mechanic requirements. So are we to cut out all these players from finding a dang shark if they want?

A voyage to actually follow clues leading you to a RNG shark type (same odds as it currently is) would be much more of a hunt IMHO. You're getting something you're actively looking for. They can keep the "random" encounters that they currently have in the game so you don't have to do voyages to find them. But if someone wanted to hop on SOT with the exclusive goal in mind to go out and hunt a giant shark they should be given the option to do so. Every other piece of content in this game is something you can actively seek out.

How can someone call themselves a deer hunter if they never enter the woods? If you ran one over with a car by mistake does that make you a deer hunter? If you never go looking for something how can you hunt for it?

Oh there is a hunt for people that do it seriously.

A person can get a meg 10-20 minutes into a session

it could be 4-5 in game days

    it could be much longer.

There have been times where it's better to stay on one server, there have been times where it's better to get a new boat. There have been times where it was a good idea to wait a couple in game days after a kill to see if another lucky one spawns and there have been times where it wasn't. This is all something that a hunter discovers by doing a lot of testing over and over every patch.

Even what you mentioned about sinking and merging hasn't really been true in recent seasons. I dive and merge and maintain my consistent results.

Even knowing/not knowing that it changes slightly or significantly patch by patch shows it's a hunt.

The pve diving added in season 11 didn't really hurt meg hunting (organically) if done right, it overall adds to the experience.

These days it's better to merge if the server wants to than try to prevent one. The merging issue was more pre-season 11.

I hope they dont count toward the current Commendations, but new ones.

  • @wolfmanbush Getting a meg to spawn 10-20 minutes into a session might just be more rare than the shrouded itself 🤣 While that may happen you will consistently get it at 90 minutes. Be real it ain't a hunt.

PvE diving definitely does mess with the meg timer - I've PvE dived all day with not a single spawn. But I can sit at an island for 90 minutes and sail away and get a meg. Every. Time.

It's alright, we won't agree on this no matter how much back and forward we have.

Clues that lead you towards a location, you search that location to find more clues - possible chumming - which lead you to a megalodon of unknown color. Much like hunting in real life, following paw prints in the mud, tracking your prey, baiting, mating calls. ACTUAL hunting.

You hear about the myths and try to find it to see it for your own eyes.
