World events

  • Please forgive me if this topic has already been posted 2twice, 10 times or 500 times. I only recently started playing on a regular basis. I play the same time of day every time I play and i have noticed that the world events (ghost fleet, battle for the sea of thieves, ashen winds battle, etc) are not active about half the time i play. I have noticed that if an event is active when i first get online, they will cycle through the entire 4 or 5 hours that i'm playing but if its not active when i start, it wont be active at all the entire time i play. So my question is.... Are the world events, such as The Ashen Winds Battle, active every day all day, is it only specific days or times or is it maybe just servers that are not active that day or time?

Between the worldevents the Kraken can appear.

  • Many factors and even more post season 11

Popularity of the event, how easy it is to "reset" the event. An event in a higher traffic area can stay active a pretty long time. Now people can raid and create events, events get cancelled and new raids replace it sometimes.

Some events are server hogs like the BB. That can stay active a long time and prevent a good rotation.

  • thanks for the replies @WolfManbush & @Lem0n-Curry but I think you misunderstand what Im asking.

Im asking if there are days or large time periods during the day that servers dont have world events going.

I will use Ashen Winds as an example since thats the one i like the most.... I play almost every day but its usually very late at night (usually after midnight) and it seems very random but there are days that sometimes when I log in, there are no events at all and there will not be an event for the 4 or 5 hours that Im playing so I wont get to take part in ANY event, then other times that they will will be active and cycling through the whole time so I will be able to play Ashen Winds 3 or 4 times. i would say about 30 or 40 percent of the time I do not see a world event start for the entire time Im online.

There should always be a world event (or Kraken) on a server, there should be no long downtime, so either you don't see the world event (e.g. if the skull in the sky is behind a storm) or it is bugged.

Some times it can take a long time, especially if there is a Burning Blade as if the crew wants to do 8 rituals it takes way more time than a Fort, Ashen Lord or a Fleet to complete.

We have had occassionaly (say maybe 2 times that we noticed) that we had to wait a very long time before a next world event would start, so what you describe certainly happens, but AFAIK very rarely.

You can nowadays dive to a world event, there is a raid voyage for Ashen Winds for Gold Hoarders, Order of Siouls &c if your level is high enough. You can also try to dive to another voyage, that at least should bring you to another server where hopefully the world events aren't bugged.

  • My theory:

    • After a world event goes down, a random ship spot is selected.
    • If that spot is not taken, no kraken spawns. If that spot is taken by a crew, a kraken spawns on that crew.
    • If that crew is not sailing on their ship for a long while (for instance because they are fishing), the kraken stays up untill that crew finaly sails into the deep sea and the kraken can spawn on them.
    • The kraken stays 'active' as long as that crew is on the server, since it's tied to a ship and therefore that ship is always in the area of the kraken, even though it can't spawn yet.

So as long as that crew isn't sailing, the kraken stays 'active' without spawning. This prevents any new world events from spawning untill the kraken can finaly spawn (and either the kraken is defeated or that ship sinks) or that crew leaves the server.

I have seen this happen where a server has no events for a very long time and no kraken but that's typically the day of a fresh update or during some major server issue. Pretty rare but I def have seen it happen.

What is likely happening is that you just don't see the event behind the clouds/storms.

You might think that it's not that but I can say that I've hunted emergent spawns (including krakens) for years and even I miss an event behind a cloud or storm somewhat regularly.

Depending on location of everything and how long it stays active it can be fairly easy to miss. Even a fleet can be hidden pretty easily.

A bb can be tracked so that helps but other events can stay hidden sometimes.

I think all events should be marked on the map as a quality of life thing. In 2024 SoT it's not gonna hurt anything, SoT is far beyond needing to worry about marking a world event on the map as a risk/reward thing.
