Uncharted Waters; an Adventure Mode

  • I know this idea has probably been thrown around a lot, but I really think Sea of Thieves could use an Adventure Mode—something between High Seas and Safer Seas.

PvP is a big part of the game, but let’s be real—not everyone wants to deal with constant fights, and Safer Seas feels like a punishment with how limited the rewards are. So, here’s my idea:

An Adventure Mode ( let's call it Uncharted Waters to fit the theme). In this mode, PvP would be optional, using a flag system—turn it on if you want to fight other players, keep it off if you don’t. To keep things balanced and still challenging, the game would ramp up PvE difficulty—more frequent threats like Krakens, Megalodons, and Ghost Ships, plus tougher enemies that hit harder and take more damage.

This would be the best of both worlds: players who just want to chill and explore won’t have to worry about getting sunk every five minutes, and those who enjoy PvP can still battle others who are up for it. Instead of forcing players into extremes, this lets everyone play the way they want while keeping the game exciting.

    Sigh…

  • Nobody would pvp in it and there would be campaigns to get the pve nerfed immediately.

In season 11 the megs were broken and did not attack at all, zero attacks
and the skelly ships were broken and sank to 1 cannonball because skellies didn't repair. And players still were pushing for pve nerfs and Rare still made a nerf in the patch notes about emergent spawns if a player sinks. (It wasn't even possible to sink to a meg at the time).

The people that want a challenge have already been creating their own for years, and a lot less people are doing that in SoT these days.

The more they hand out reward and let people cheese all the time the more difficult it will be to address it down the road. Unless they think they have enough retention to just full on let it become another farming simulator.

  • Game is 7 years old now and if this was going to happen it would have already.

You have safer seas and you have alliance servers.

  • @dank-jimb0

Safer seas punishes me for using it with the inability to progress and the inability to use my own ship.

And I didn't know Alliance Servers are a thing

  • Ok, you don't want PvP. I board your ship, and take your loot. Now what (aside from me thanking you)?

  • I understand the want to not pvp, as someone who is almost always playing solo I rarely ever want to get in a fight. (Ima lose) but I don’t think a mode with other players but without pvp is the way to go. Pvp is an integral part of this game, it’s that risk it brings which makes the reward feel so good. Unfortunately it makes the loss feel worse but we have alliance servers and safer seas.

  • This would only serve to further divide an already divided player base by creating a third unnecessary game mode. There's already a mode for people who opt out of player interaction and that's Safer Seas. If you want the rewards that come with further progression, you have to risk the chance of losing it against other pirates in High Seas. It really is just that simple.

Safer Seas doesn't punish you. It limits you from progressing because you are removed from the pvp risk which is a part of Sea of Thieves.

Alliance Servers are your best bet, but you are still at risk of a pvp'er coming in there and stealing your stuff :)

  • @dream-cream2243 safe seas is designed to be a bridge to high seas and I think it does fine. Adding more modes just isn't necessary and the drawbacks are clear. Dev resources and player counts get split across modes, meaning updates become smaller and it's harder to satisfy everyone.
