Something I've been worried about. To Rare

  • I try to be a positive part of the community, so hopefully this comes off with the best intentions, as I have grown up in California and have zero prejudice for anyone.

I believe that a game is not a soap box, and should attempt to appeal to as many players as possible. Most of Sea of Thieves players don't care about sexual orientation or pride... it is a pirate game. I am worried that Rare has been captured by a left leaning ideology and that it only has the potential to harm future of Sea of Thieves and more importantly the future of Everwild.

Having a rainbow flag up on the official discord all year around does absolutely nothing but potentially turn people away. It does not sell a single copy of the game.
This alone isn't the end of the world, but it is a bad sign.

Right now, there are a two things to be aware of.
1.) Chronically online people seek validation and will demonize this sentiment
2.) Rare employees who want to look good will hate this post

I'm not seeking any sort of response to this, I just fell that its my part to post this opinion out there.

Feel free to reply against this post and farm social points, but that isn't the reason I've made the post. Have a nice day pirates.

  • @jaxycafe Rare have always had a very progressive stance and employ some of the most diverse people in the industry. The bigotry being displayed in your post is the reason why they’ve kept it all year round, to show they have a zero tolerance policy against it. The fact it annoys you but you’ve had to make this post instead of saying nothing shows your intolerance for people being who they are. This game is not welcoming to bigotry, and if you feel it should be then you’re not welcome either.

  • We fly the inclusive flag all year round, we raise money for LGBTQIA+ charities, we create inclusive spaces for LGBTQIA+ peers to meet and will ALWAYS create LGBTQIA+ friendly spaces for our players, including representation in our game.

People have a right to a safe environment to enjoy the games they love and we will be that space. You do not have to like it but we will not argue our stance nor the fact we have made the decision to show our support outside of Pride Month.

Empathy is important. We're in a world where we live online and are protected by screens. People matter. People having spaces to be themselves when they potentially can't be in their real lives and societies also matters.

The seas are for everyone and we will always, ALWAYS represent our players, stand by them and fight for their right to exist.

Dropping anchor as our stance as company is very clear on this subject and always has been.
