@chilmus Imagine countries like Argentina (Going through economic issues)that have to pay around 90$. This is crazy...

The common thread I am seeing here is "EU". Did anyone on here ever stop to think that perhaps these countries are causing the price issue and not the company itself? Not saying that I know...because I don't. But, as of right this second $1.00 is 0.80 Euro. 1.00 pound sterling is 1.13 Euro. 60.00 Argentine peso is 2.47 euro. What these individual countries do for taxation is beyond me. Here in the states we would pay an individual sales tax based on where I live. For me that is 7.000%. That is an additional $4.20 on top of the $60 that Rare/Microsoft take. If the companies are dropping the ball on the conversion that needs to be pointed out. Perhaps the Brits in here can correct me if I am wrong...The EU has been especially punishing toward British products since Brexit. Whether that is true or not, I don't know. Just something I picked up on in a macroeconomics class last summer.

And other games, even indie ones manage to keep almost consistent prices, exactly how?..:) The price differences between countries outside of the USA is WAAAY too much. Most games I saw so far was the currency conversion plus sometimes a little extra. But here they kind of shot over that little extra...

Gaming is not essential to your life, developers set prices to recoup costs.

A one time fee to play the game is nothing, maybe budget your money better? Set $10/week aside. Viola

Just because I set 10$/week aside, doesn't mean I want to buy something that I think is overpriced and not worth it. And the game IS overpriced in some regions, thanks to Microsoft store being great and all.

You think it's overpriced, I don't think it is and it is worth it. See how that works?

Microsoft does not arbitrarily raise prices in different countries just for fun.

Import fees, various taxes on entertainment, currency conversion, whatever the case may be, the reason it costs me $60 in the US, and other countries more lies on your countries government, not rare or Microsoft.

I pretty much think they did arbitrarily raise prices. Other companies don't need to do it to this extent, so how are they so special? They are not. They messed up their pricing, that's it. Other released games can keep their prices pretty consistent between countries digital AND retail.

However I do think 70EUR is too expensive, it is between my "acceptable" limit. But other countries have it even worse, wouldn't even think of buying it there if I would live there.

  • @trustedyak70131 We'll odds are there will be a sale and if you're interested in getting it at that price then do so. No one is telling you you have to buy the game. If what it is priced at doesn't suit you just don't pick it yet. Wait awhile maybe you see that you do want it maybe you'll still decide you won't. It'll be your decision in the end whether you buy it or not. Everyone has the own choice of whether to decide to pre-order or even purchase a game so you do whatever you think is best. I to have stopped pre-ordering most games, and I don't order a game until I have looked into it enough and decide that I'll at least get my moneys worth out of it play time wise(of course how much play time that takes is my personal opinion). But you do you my friend, make your own judgement call on whether it's worth it to you or not.

  • @kgmshylian I am just guessing, speculating. You figure currencies fluctuate from day to day. Most currencies are based on the value of the U.S. Dollar. So, watch the dollar...perhaps they see a change in the coming market and are building in a cushion for possible loss...or, perhaps the EU is slapping heavy tariffs and excise taxes on imports from non-EU nations. After all, with the UK gone, who is propping the EU up now (financially)?

  • @trustedyak70131 said in Way too much overpriced !!:

The price is way over logical levels ! The content is only "this" much yet the price is like buying the game 3 times over !

Yea microsoft is the one controlling that but guess what if they don't sell it you have the problem , not microsoft..

I won't be buying this game at all if it holds this price..

if you wont pay dat much for a game you have still the Option to get the Xbox Game pass for like 10€/month
but you should imagine how much work ppl put into this
also there games which costs more than 70€ etc

    some example:
Imagine how much Money ppl spend to Play World of Warcraft Monthly would you rather pay like 15$/per month or would you do a onetime Payment which is like 70€
also you have to know that rare doesnt Show off the full Content of the game

and we all know that this Price is a hard bread but you have to Keep in mind what ppl are expecting like Open world, Realistic enviroment, Long term fun, etc. and ppl came over here and telling they want such a game but only want to spend like 20$ this is such a stupid realization

PS: sorry for my bad English ☠☠

  • At least it is a finished job. I have paid much more in proportion for early access in other games.

If the final result is the expected one, the price deserves it.

Hello, I am Fumagalli and I will agree and disagree with this topic, or I will say the pros and cons ... Well I am a Brazilian and I will make some price comparisons so that you have a sense of how expensive it is for us ( Of course the company has nothing to do, but I'll expose our income anyway.)! Come on...

The Salary that the government gives us for our work each month is equivalent to "R $ 979.00." which in euros is worth "€ 244.35" and in microsoft for people the game is costing "$ 199.99" which in euro is worth "€ 49.86". That's 20% of our salary! That would give us 7 days of work. So I agree that the game really for us (Brazilians) is an expensive game. But it also has the advantages of paying the price for the game, because it is a game that most Brazilian gamer are enthusiastic to play and we have a large audience of this game, not to mention the competitiveness between the seas, the interaction between the players, the a proposal that the game gives us with its quest, the difficulty and puzzles that hide the treasures, how teamwork develops during the game and several other criteria in a single open world game. I hope the value of the game is at least a reduced ... But if you continue the same price, I'm sure it will be a well paid money and that the fun will be guaranteed !!! Thanks for the space.

    (Sorry for the translation!)

  • I need to say i find 70 dollars really steep, and its holding me back for now aswell.
if you only play on pc or xbox, I think there should be a lower price for only a key on pc and xbox and if you want a dual then you pay 70 euro's.

Not everyone has money that he can easly miss but still want to play a game like this.

  • As a pioneer (NDA) all I can say is....Just WAIT and see what yinz are getting....WOW!!! Yinz aint seen nothing yet......NOTHING!

  • @lebaguette27 well for me is $60 which I do think is a fair price as I do believe that it will have the content rare had promised at release, and if it doesn't, I still have enough fun with the game as it currently is that I am ok with it, I was ready to pay the full $60 for it when I first played it back in April last year, but that's just me

I can promise...thats not just you!

  • @touchdown1504 well Im glad I'm not the only one lol

  • @spr1nk Bro, I bought 4 copies, 1 for me, 2 for my daughters, and one for my girlfriend's son! At $64.20 a piece that is $256.80. That is how it is when 4 members of a household play Xbox, and only one has an income LOL!

  • @GatorHater42 Hello Mate,

I have removed the link from your post as it directs to information about the Datamining. As this is against the Xbox ToS it is not permitted on the forums and has been removed. If this happens again you will be banned without further warning.

  • @touchdown1504 UK is still in the EEA withc makes things kind of weird so tax is not the issue here at the moment. But I see your point.

  • @spr1nk Yes 60$ witch is 48€ is actually good. But we get it for 70€ or 87$ witch I believe its a troll thing...

  • @trustedyak70131 Price is all eye of the beholder and how deep is the wallet...

Ehhh English bro?? If your gonna complain at least make it readable.

  • I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but why is this even a discussion? With cheaper options (i.e. Xbox Game Pass - 10 USD/mo, 14-day free trial) available, it makes the game accessible for everyone. Sure, if you eventually decide to purchase the full game, you're still looking at a hefty price tag, but games have been doing that for as far back as I can remember. It all comes down to how you choose to spend your money and what you consider being "worth it".

  • Worth every penny

  • I expect to be playing this game for hundreds of hours. Not only pre-ordered, but upgraded my OS and monitor to play on my pc.

And this was just for a chance at playing closed beta.

  • @samyelson Show me on steam where it is. Because you can not buy the game on steam if you look it up.

  • Unfortunately I also need to complain about price :(

In my country, in Europe See of Theves is right now the most expensive game, w*f.

Other latest AAA games like AssassinsCreed origins, Battlefront 2 etc. are for 80% of SoT price. For that price i even bought collectors edition of Elex.

I was so hyped for SoT and when I saw price I felt sad, because I can't afford it :( Its just too much for a PC game.
I love pirate games. My house is even finished in dark wood marine style and in free time I make wooden models of sailing ships. I work as game developer and I buy lot of games, but there is a limit and SoT crossed it.

I can now only wait when it will be cheaper and wish lot of fun for these who already bought it.

  • 70€ is PREORDER price. You are paying for being able for beta test and exclusive black dog pack. After relase game should be cheaper without that features, you can wait. And the fact is 70€ is one day of work so its not a big deal for game like this.

  • @touchdown1504
You are aware that you could have just bought 2 copies & used family game sharing!

  • Why games cost so much nowadays:

  • @lil-bastien said in Way too much overpriced !!:
And the fact is 70€ is one day of work so its not a big deal for game like this.

Depend where you live. In my country 70€ is 6 days of work for average person. Its how much I spend for food for a full month. I believe that this price in US or UK is ok, but not everywhere. International economy can be brutal sometimes. That's why Withcer3 was cheap and gives lot of free content. Even with low price it was still a huge financial success, because you need to pay much less for production.

But you are right, there is a big chance that price will be lower some time after release. Lets just wait.

  • To all those complaining about price in their Country / Region.
Buy it from a cheaper country!!
To do so, buy Xbox Credit / Currency for the country you wish to purchase from (so if you wanted to buy from UK you would need £50 credit, USA would need $ credit & so on.) There are many online stores which sell foreign Xbox Credit just google it.
You then go to Xbox store on pc, change region to what currency you purchased (Scroll to bottom, change country is on left), then go to purchase the game, when it asks for a payment method select gift cards & enter the codes for your xbox credit.

  • @o3ozon Witcher 3 was made in my country so I understand their economy :D But really, if someone feels like preorder price is too much, he can wait. He really don't need beta or black dog pack to play a game.

  • @lil-bastien Pozdrawiam z Warszawy! :D So as I said, I will wait for release and for lower price.

@LogansDadToo That sounds interesting, I need to check it, thanks

  • @o3ozon
No problem m8, done it quite a few times!
I'm all for saving a bit where i can ;)

  • @o3ozon I've written to You private message, check your chat mailbox please.

  • @o3ozon @FUMAGALLY
Hey guys! I know what you guys mean. In comparison I have to work about 1 day to be able to pay for SoT.. so it's a bit unfair I guess..

On the other hand, you DON'T have to buy the game at launch or buy it at the microsoft store either. There are enough cd-key websites which allow you to buy the game for about 45€, so if you don't have a lot of money you can try that!
I don't put the links up here because I'm not advertising any other companies, that's not my point.. if you want more info just PM me or add me to Xbox live.

Now like I've seen before in this thread: for those to who are able to buy it but won't because of it's high price.. It al depends on if its worth it for you.. For example, when I recently bought a new PC I got free games (came with Nvidea gfx card + intel cpu).. Got Assassins creed Origins + Destiny 2 + some others..

    Haven't played those games because:

    • When I play AC:O I don't want to have a MMO map in a singleplayer game..too much walking around, go to guy X, kill 3 soldiers, go to guy Z, give 2 items and so on... it's too repetative and too slow.. so f*k it.
    • When I play destiny 2, it's too slow and not giving me enough back to be satisfied about, so I'd rather play the FREE Warframe on steam (which is almost the same as Destiny, except more fast-paced, so giving me more feedback (I prefer high intensity games)).

Payed for pre-order, not because I have too much money (no, I seriously haven't got that much at all!) but because I support the game and community, which means most to me. I even bought the SoT X1 controller (I don't even own an xbox 1) because of the nice graphics and I love the fact that it's community-created!

At final I want to make this visual for you guys, and for comparison I'll use League of Legends:
free game, but if you want some skins and stuff, you'll pay, a lot! So the past couple of years, I've spent atleast 200€ on skins and such..
So you tell me, was that worth it?

I mean devs gotta choose what kind'a game they want to represent: if that's the high price at launch and no(or almost non) costs afterwards, or do they make the game cheap at launch and set up a big microtransaction shop which is almost needed to keep the game alive and thus using extreme priced cosmetics and such..
Both attract a different kind of playerbase.

In conclusion, I hope you guys can find the game for the right price (talking mostly to PC users), the price which gives you a satisfied feeling. To me the retailprice is fine, but I understand quite good that it isn't fine for a lot of you.
I hope to see all of you on the rough seas at the 20th of March, or later if you wait till the price drops :D

peace and love! and booty! YAR! LOTS OF BOOTY!

  • @trustedyak70131 said in Way too much overpriced !!:

I won't be buying this game at all if it holds this price..

Not sure about other places, but it's £49.99 incl. VAT in the UK. That's the normal price for games nowadays here. I only ever uy a new game if it's particularly special. Have bought 1 game new since getting an Xbox one. All others have been through share or second hand purchasing. I'll buy SoT though.
