Pay to win pistols.

  • This is unacceptable. I don't mind(I actually prefer) if there are ways to upgrade/sidegrade players ability to fight based on progression, but making it paid or timed exclusive content and not available to the average player is very much... bad...

For those who don't know what i'm talking about(I just found out about it today) there are exactly 3 pistols in the game with iron sights. ALL of them are exclusive content that you can't get by playing the game. The "Ebon flintlock Pistol", "Ferryman Pistol", and "Mercenary Pistol".
As everyone knows the in-game pistols don't have sights. You have to estimate the center of the pistol in order to hit your target(not a hard thing to do, but it is obviously less accurate than a proper sight).
Here is the standard sight we all know.

and here are the mercenary and ferryman pistols(ebon is same as mercenary)

Rare pretends that everyone is on the same playing field(which obviously isn't true, or xbox players wouldn't have to fight PC players) and that's why they won't add character progression in the form of equipment/mods. I would personally would prefer being able to buy mods and different weapons/equipment to give me some sort of use for my now useless gold. However, if they are gonna allow things like iron sights they MUST be consistent and let everyone get them.

  • I seriously doubt that little nub is giving anyone an edge on combat

  • @el-dunco There's always one lol Or holy c**p there's 34 now! that's insane lol

  • Sea Dog pistols have an angled barrel that work like an iron sight, mate. Same with Sea Dog Blunderbuss.

You can buy them for 13000 gold and change at Galleon's Grave.

  • @andriel1036 It's not nearly as good as the merc and ferry sights, but yeah it's better than the default.

  • @betsill It's what I use, I don't miss much unless shooting off the ship, and that's due to waves.

  • Iron sights do give an advantage in any FPS, so I agree on that. Every pistol should have had one or none at all, cause now theres room for speculation. Either way I can shoot fine but good point.

  • I have no trouble hitting my mark with a standard pistol, even at long range. That nub thingie looks useless to me. In fact, it seems like it would be a hindrance. Either way, it’s just cosmetic and no big deal.

  • I have no idea what you people are talking about... are you seriously suggesting that someone is going to be better because they've got a cosmetically different gun?... can you not aim?... do you lack the basic spatial awareness to understand where the middle of the gun is?... do you have eyes and thumbs?... I am so confused as to how this is "pay to win", more like "get a free code with something you would have bought anyway to have a slightly different design at the top of your gun"

  • @stayooriginal do they?.........

  • He has a point. It’s not that big of an issue but considering how easy it is to fix it should be taken care of. Make a few interesting looking weapons with good sights. End of story

  • @genuine-heather Do you not understand how sights work? Or why no one in the world uses a gun without them in some form?

  • @private-ramb0 This is all I ask.

I wouldn’t buy a gun with that ridiculous looking thing on it. More to the point, it’s absurd to call such a cosmetic variation “pay to win.” That thing isn’t giving anyone an advantage.

  • @reedski Goodness me! I've been buying sights for my guns all this time because I thought it helps with aiming... I really feel stupid now that I know it's just a cosmetic difference...

  • @genuine-heather
It is a negligible advantage. I don’t think it gives anyone an advantage but I’ve heard it mentioned countless times. It’s the devs fault for putting us in a situation where people would need to discuss it. One of the main jobs of the devs is to not give people anything to complain about.

  • @genuine-heather If you don't want to buy something that helps you be more accurate then by all means don't buy a gun with one. It DOES give and advantage regardless of whether you understand why or not though.

  • @betsill said in Pay to win pistols.:

Do you understand that most 18th century flintlocks didn’t have those kinds of sights? At most they had a little nub on the end of the barrel. Some did, some didn’t. Either way, in this game you don’t need sights to shoot accurately. Flintlock accuracy is actually ridiculous. Those cosmetic features are not going to give anyone in this game a noticeable advantage.

  • At this rate we are gonna have people crying for crosshairs

I don’t need help shooting accurately. If you are that bad of a shot, I understand why you’re upset, but that ridiculous cosmetic thing isn’t going to help.

  • this is the whole reason I spent £50 on the controller....so I could have a jazzy nub on my pistol

EDIT: although it is gold so gives away a 'stealth' edge so I guess it is balanced...

The golden question is, does it really give you an unfair advantage?

  • @genuine-heather "Do you understand that most 18th century flintlocks didn’t have those kinds of sights?"
This is relevant how? Alot of them did and blackpowder weapons back then where also smooth bore that literally couldn't hit the broad side of a barn...
"Those cosmetic features are not going to give anyone in this game a noticeable advantage."
Again. If you don't understand the advantages of sights on a weapon it doesn't mean that it isn't an advantage. You people will literally defend Rare from anything lol Even if it wasn't an advantage and it was all in my head, what do you lose exactly by having it added to the game for all players?

  • @genuine-heather Honestly the fact that you keep calling it a "little nub" and "ridiculous cosmetic thing" makes you seem like you have no idea what you're talking about..

  • @betsill no worries mate, glad I could help

  • @genuine-heather absolutely! :D but like I said the gold shine prevents me from hiding so...swings and roundabouts haha

people will complain about clothing giving away an advantage soon..

It is not a millisecond/millimetre dependant FPS played at the speed of light so makes no discernable difference..if it helps, I still can't fight for toffee even WITH my 'Uber sight'

  • @betsill it does not

  • @triheadedmonkey I mean technically it's an advantage to have a skinny character vs a fat one too lol but that's what you get for being bigger i guess lol

  • @genuine-heather I agree with you, pointless little nub, if anyone seriously needs that to aim then they've already lost the fight, if you can't just use your eyes and the sort of basic spatial awareness that a child possess then maybe you shouldn't be playing video games at all

Get over yourself and stop with the personal attacks. I understand the concept just fine, and have handled and fired a number of firearms. But we’re talking about flintlock pistols. In this game, they are already absurdly accurate. Adding sights does nothing to improve that accuracy. It’s strictly cosmetic. And frankly, they probably did nothing to improve the accuracy of real 18th century flintlocks, either. The idea that these little cosmetic features equal “pay to win” is absolutely ridiculous.

  • #BeTheBullet #IAmTheBullet #OneWithTheBullet

Did I pay for ebon flintlock? No, it was a Mixpot giveaway. Does it make me shoot better/easier? Not really, no. (It sure is pretty though.)

Did I pay for the ferryman pistol? No, it was included with the controller purchase. Does it make me shoot better/easier? Not really, no. (Because it’s hideous and I never use it.)

Pay to win? Please. No one is winning if you don’t acquire the skill to shoot with it.

Put a piece of non-marring tape on your tv, directly lining up with each weapon and train it... it will become muscle memory to you in no time.

  • @baconwrappedsac WOW you seriously need to calm down.. l***o

  • @bbbattlebunny #ZenBullet #3rdEyeOnThePrize

  • @genuine-heather I never used personal attacks...? You can't say you understand the concept and then say this
"Adding sights does nothing to improve that accuracy."
Of course it doesn't improve the functionality of the weapon. It doesn't interact with the weapon's mechanism in any way. What it does is improve the users ability to use the weapon effectively by better displaying the rounds trajectory.
"they probably did nothing to improve the accuracy of real 18th century flintlocks, either."
    Probably not lol
