Best PvP Moments where you learned something

  • Hey guys,

So I am making this thread so we can all post the moments where we had a blast with PvP, and learned something for the launch.

My personal story was I was on a Galleon with my wife, and two friends chasing another 4 man crew. We were fairly close on their tail, and they had one guy sniping from the back of their ship. I was at the front of the ship sniping back, and didn't think anything of the bullets flying over my head. That is until one of his shots hit a gunpowder barrel that a friend had put at the base of our back mast below deck. Needless to say, it exploded, and then caused a chain reaction that blew up our other gunpowder barrels below deck.

LESSON LEARNED. Don't keep gunpowder below deck. HAHA. But we are loving this game, and I hope to hear some fun stories!

  • Does the hull not protect the barrels from small arms fire? That seems a little unrealistic to me. I doubt a musket could penetrate 4+ inches of hard wood. Maybe I'm wrong though. Also, how did they know they were there?

  • It does, but he shot it just right that it didnt hit the hull. It was at the base of the stairs. He didnt know it was there, he just missed his shot at me, and it hit the barrel instead. It was a complete accident.

  • @tediousplane28 That is AWESOME lol

  • I like this thread. I am very curious about the details of combat. I have not had much sword fighting experience BUT IT SEEMS LIKE you can block and after three hits there is an opening to get a hit or two then you should block again unless you are lucky enough to get a stun lock going on. I learned that swords are way better than guns up close obviously as it should be haha. You stun lock and thats it, only possible chance is the blunderbuss to the face. So I typically run in shoot my blunderbuss and go sword right away.

Ship combat I learned the same about the barrels haha I typically keep them up in the crows nest. You can keep them safe ish below deck but boarders will destroy you in a second so crows nest is my suggestion. Also, ships are pretty much unsinkable without some form of boarding team or at least killing them off on the deck with cannon fire. Seems the best strategy is to go into a slow half or less sail length instead of anchoring because then youre a sitting duck. At half or qtr sail you can easily pick up speed again if overwhelmed or just drift by landing lots of shots. Just know boarders are a bigger possibility at slow speed although not as bad as anchoring again as to why I avoid that.

Taking on more than one guy is pretty suicidal (i always play solo) Yes sure you can get lucky but if there are straight up two guys and you on a beach you better run and hide at least to make them come around corners so you have your blunderbuss ready or something. Don't be on an open beach. Climb up ladders and mountainsides. Use the enviroment.

Leave a cheap chest somewhat in the open and hide your better stuff. A lot of people find that and think thats it. So maybe not full on pvp but it is psychological pvp haha.

All of this came from my pvp experiences.

  • I learnt that there is no honor amongst thieves, so throwing a bucket of vomit in your enemies face before shooting them is a valid tactic and works a treat!

Plus you get to drink lots of grog before hand to prepare so its a win win.

  • @knifelife haha I have been curious about a team carrying buckets of water onto an enemy ship to sink it haaha

I saw a YouTuber do this with his crew. It was pretty epic. but they only sank a sloop with it though

  • @revanjstone @TediousPlane28 Yeah its a pretty good tactic if you can get your whole crew to use the water, iy will help fill the ship up alot faster to put them out of the fight.

But i was on about using puke not water, with a bucket full pf puke you can throw it in other players faces and distort there vision to give you a combat advantage, that and it's funny xD

  • Learned that there's a specific splash sound that occurs when someone grabs hold of your ladder. I was at the wheel during combat, and something just didn't sound right. So I poked my head over the side, to witness a boarder about halfway up.

Later on, I also learned to trust that sound more than my eyes. I heard the sound, but when I checked both sides, I didn't see anyone! Less than a minute later, I took a blunderbuss to the back. I learned that some people, assuming I check when I hear the sound, will grab the ladder, but stay down at the very bottom, below the water line and out of sight, until I've let my guard down, before they come up.

  • @tediousplane28 Let me refer to my story about the bucket: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/31667/any-thoughts-on-the-bucket

  • I´ve learned don't trust any other crews as your own!
There was a Galleon crew who said they are friendly and wanted to sing a song.
They boarded with bananas sings a song with bad language and after a single moment we were all dead and our ship sunks.
I am optimistic and can't believe that all people out there are toxic as they were. However, it will happen again sometimes. I had very funny moments with other crews and don't want to miss that.
Will do just my preparings first if this kind of situation will happen again ;) Arrr!
