In search of respect ...

  • Hello everyone.

I wanted to remind one of the "pirate rules" of the game : the respect for each others. It is certain that the devs' can not understand this until they test the game in real time, and with the community instead of playing with other devs'.
This morning we were attacked with a friend by a Frenchman answering the nickname of [mod removed] in the game. Ok, nothing shocking, I mean, everyone is trying to sink everyone, there is almost no help. But this time we had some insults that I would not mention here because of the rules of the forum. It was heavy insults. Really. The goal of this person was to make us angry for his recording.

We will not send a mail to the devs', because they will do nothing, we all know that I think. This is why I'm talking to you, my pirate friends (the good ones, if there are any).
Be careful about this person, and others like him.

Oh and, if in your road of fortune you see him ... Kill him twice for us ! ♥

    (Sorry for the bad english)

The purpose of my message was not to make it a personal case, but to warn the community of its total nuisance, and its love for gratuitous wickedness.
And honestly I have something else to do than to send him a message, all this to get another insult.

  • @seranah & @D-Cadovius
Please keep in mind that publicly naming the players is nothing Rare likes to see in this forums.

But of course we will encounter some people in the game which just insult other players for no reason.
Deal with them as you like: try to talk some sense into them, fool around and show that you don't react to their insult as they hope or just report them.

  • @seranah We're not supposed to name and shame on the forums, not sure if this applies to nick names, but definitely gamertags.

The only thing you can do when running into players like this (on any game) is to report them to Microsoft. If every person who met this player had the same experience and all reported him, Microsoft would look at his account and do something about it.

  • @seranah
I’m all for spawn camping, outpost camping, and what some will call griefing all around. I do that stuff all in good fun. But I have zero tollorance for people who are verbally abusive others. No sportsmen ship in that!

  • @seranah You shouldn't name shame on the forum. It's okay to post your gripe, but better not to put the name up
[EDIT] You can make a ticket and report him if it was really bad

  • [mod removed]
This is his name on the forum, in the game, and on his Xbox. I do not understand why Rare would not like to see nicknames on forums while they are readable everywhere else.

Sure, as I said, try to make believe that the whole community will help each other is illusion. I just wanted to remind that :

"Article 7 : Those Who Cheat Shall Be Punished
Pirates who show bad form and cheat their crew or others shall surely face bitter hardships and punishments."

EDIT : Again, I don't wan't to be bad about the person behind the screen as he was with us, but if his nickname is here, it's for a reason. I mean, trying to hide it would not lie about what a community can do ?

  • @sirliborius
    Oh, right. My apologies.

I'll let the cannons do the talking then.

  • Yeah publicly shaming or bringing in-game drama with another player to the forum using accounts/names is against the code you hold to so dearly as well. Mods will educate you on that, soon enough, I imagine.

For future issues involving in-game voice comms, you can easily open the other player's profile, and choose to block and report them, instead of dragging it here.

  • @face-0-o
    "In-game drama"
Oh sorry, it's juste some serious insults, it's nothing compared to mentioning a nickname already present on the forum, yeah ...
In this case shows me where it is written that it is forbidden to quote a pseudo already visible ?

    M'eh, trolls ...

  • @seranah Just report players to Microsoft if they insult you ingame.

And for the question, where it is written that you should not call out names, here:
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/31232/community-rules-the-pirate-code

"The biggest rule on our Forums is that we treat each other with respect. Swearing, name-calling and any other form of abuse is not permitted. Forum users who repeatedly ignore warnings to stop negative behaviour will be removed from the Forums and if applicable may face in game penalties."

Name-calling is acceptable in a friendly context only (thanking the crew after a funny session or stuff like that), as far as i experienced it.

  • @seranah Please do not name other players in this way on the forum as it is against our code of publicly naming and shaming. I have edited your posts and ask that if you have an issue with another player that you report them through Xbox/MS.

  • Ahoy @d-cadovius! Your fellow pirates are correct, on the Sea of Thieves official community (Forums, Xbox Club and Discord) we do not name and start witch-hunts! If a player has displayed behaviours that is against the pirate code, please flag the post, submit a support ticket!
