Pirate keeps skipping forward/backward making it difficult to play (Rubber banding)

  • Not sure what the term of this is, but my pirate is acting glitchy. As I'm running he'll periodically skip about five paces forward or backward. He'll reach the top of the ship's stairs and then he's all of a sudden back at the bottom. Very annoying.

I've checked my network details through the Xbox and my wireless strength is excellent, ping is 30s or below, download speed is 200+ Mbps. Everything works fine on the other Xbox, which is wired to the router. Unfortunately, this Xbox is too far to run a wire to the router.

Suggestions or ideas? I've moved the Xbox and TV one room closer to the router but same results.

  • @skorpio11x i had the same issue during the beta, If you are running forward and it starts to glitch just release the buttons you are pressing and then press them as normal,

so stop running for a second and then run as normal,
it worked for me during the beta when i was struggling to get up the deck stairs.

no issues for me with the official release though, so hopefully its something that can be fixed.

are you playing on PC or Xbox ?

i was playing on Xbox when is was occuring for me, dont think it has to do with my connection though

  • I know what OP is referring to. It happened tonight and it happened last night.

Peak Time play rubberbanding. Even if you have a good personal connection, the server disagrees with the client on player position and tries to "correct" where it thinks you should be.

  • @skorpio11x Rubberbanding is the accepted term for your issue.

It can sometimes be your connection but as these servers are getting hammered with game pass players and they didn't expect the traffic. it's not an issue you can solve.

  • Ive had it now and again aswell,I believe it is a server issue so im sure it will be sorted soon enough :)

  • @blessed-karma playing on Xbox. I'll try your suggestion.

  • Rubberbanding – thanks for clueing me in on the term, I figured there was a term for this.

Most of you say it's a server issue, but I'm playing with my GF in the same house and she's not having the problem on her Xbox. She is wired to the router while I'm not. But still, I have an excellent wireless connection. If it's a server issue, and we're on the same crew/server, why am I the only one experiencing the issue?

  • Update: I tried everything with the router, including a factory reset. Played the game some more and it is still terrible. I did one voyage and I had to stop playing.

I ordered a 100' ethernet cable from Amazon which should be here Saturday. I'm going to run the cable from the router on the main floor to the Xbox on the second floor.

I know you guys say that it is a server issue, but since the other wired Xbox is working flawlessly, I figure I'll give this a try. The cable was only $13 so why not.
