I just wasted 2 hours finding loot and when I was unloading it I guess mermaid sunk my ship in the harbor and I lost everhappen?

? When I clicked on the mermaid it went to black screen and I appeared on the other side of the map. Loot gone.
So your ship sank, you took the mermaid to your ship and your surprised your loot is gone??

Mermaids don't sink ships; sirens don't either.
If there was a mermaid before your ship sunk, this would be an indication that there was another person (or more) there from another crew: they might have sunk your ship.
If you stop your ship too close to land (i.e. when it's touching the sand or the sea bottom) the game might decide to sink your ship based on it being grounded. This takes some time though.
Obviously if you crashed into the island, your vessel might have gotten holes: water comes in and ship sinks.
