Please Rare, can you please fix this fullscreen issue already?

  • A SOLUTION HAS FINALLY BEEN FOUND:
Thanks to fatcrobe from Reddit this issue is finally resolved for me and here is the solution:

The Windows UAC (User Account Control) is the source of the problem. If you have this disabled for whatever personal reason, enable it and or alternatively download and run this troubleshooter to fix it for you.

I said I was going to get angry so here is my rant for the millionth time. Sorry about the length but I want to speak my mind fully this time as this has been completely killing my joy of playing for the longest time.

You have seriously had all the time in the world to do something about it but you decide to launch the Beta anyway knowing very well that this issue exists for a good while now and that it was guaranteed to affect a number of new people who Pre-Ordered or are playing for the first time. How much do you actually care for everybody to have an equally good experience? I understand if you cant please everyone with the amount of content in the Beta, but you could at least make sure the game is accessible and functions properly for everyone, especially when you've had all this time to do it. This level of carelessness is beyond frustrating.

These are from today, I would link to more older threads in here but a lot of the older Alpha threads have been deleted. I'm sure there will be popping up more threads and reports further into the Closed Beta... Heck, why should it matter anyway? you clearly know about the issue at hand:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/7spp41/how_hard_is_it_to_fix_this_mousemultiscreen_bug/
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/7spvd1/windows_10_issue_full_screen_mouse_capture/
    https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/7sphre/game_window_broken_with_multiple_monitors/

Let me just remind you the game was perfectly fine in the Alpha until at some point there was an update released that completely broke how the forced Borderless-Window "Fullscreen" is recognized by the game when you have multiple monitors for some users, since then people affected have been reporting on it but instead of fixing their own errors Rare have clearly been completely neglecting the issue for some reason, maybe because not enough people are experiencing it for them to care enough to bother?

As they explain in this blog you would think this different approach and choice of development would prevent issues like this still existing after months of reporting and that Rare's goal was supposed to have a good level of quality at all times? Being forced to disconnect your other monitors just to be able to play the game without constant frustration and then yet still having issues is NOT a delivery on a good quality experience. Completely unacceptable at this point.

    Get your act together Rare!

  • They still haven't fixed the bug that causes the game to crash at the splash screen. Its obviously some kind of authentication or permissions problem, because most people can get around it by logging into Windows using their Microsoft Account.

You'd think this would be a priority right before you release it to several tens of thousands of new users.

  • @d3adst1ck I don't even know what's happening within the Windows 10 team, they are completely silent most of the time and I would really like if they were communicating with us more. Not too long ago I got in contact with Ted here on the forums and explained my issue and he responded, but I've head nothing since then.

I've been testing for months, I've been reporting bugs, and then I have been literally begging here in the forums and through ticket reports for three months to have this issue resolved, I'm really not happy.

  • @mad-mordechai The windows side of this game is probably low priority. With the way sales for Windows Store exclusive games has been going, I can't really blame them but this just compounds the problem and leads to less people wanting to deal with it in the first place.

    • Sensitivity is way too high which means you have the slider set quite low, and then its way too low when using zoom objects (Spyglass, Sniper Rifle, and to a lesser extend just using ADS on the pistol and blunderbuss.)
    • The user interface is lacking in several areas requiring using Pg Up / Pg Down to cycle through menus (why not W / S or A / D ?) and some things are clickable and others are not.
    • Numerous issues with the Windows Store, from getting updates, launching the game right down to even just getting it to install properly. This is probably more of a Microsoft Team issue, but still...

These aren't new issues either. I don't know why these weren't targetted before the Closed Beta, when they knew that people would be streaming and a large number of those streamers are probably going to be on PC.

I didnt stop to think about how we can now finally stream and make videos, I decided to actually record the issue so now you can actually see the issue for yourselves and not just have me rant about it in words. Make sure to watch it in fullscreen.

Sorry for the stretched game window, this is my first time using OBS and I'm not used to the program, I had to fit both my main ultrawide and my second monitor to record on both, but here you can see what's happening.

  • This, I can't play the game. If I get ganked by another ship I'm screwed as I can't defend myself properly. Even got killed by skeletons cause of the aiming caused the mouse to leave the game.. I thought yea well it's still beta but if you've known about this for about 3 months and still haven't fixed it then what guarantee do we have it will be fixed at release? I'm not buying this game until I know this issue is fixed.

  • A big update:

    I can't believe it....

This entire time, it's simply been the UAC being disabled that caused all of this to happen, it's almost unfathomable that this alone was the source of the problem all along, how could that be? and why has there not been a single source of help up until now with a solution when that was literally all that was necessary? Was Rare truly ignorant about this all up to this point?

I am probably the most happy person on earth right now that I came across this post, thank you SO MUCH to fatcrobe from Reddit who provided a solution to this issue that's been haunting me (and probably a lot others) to no end for the past almost 4 months, now I can finally go back to testing.

    TLDR:
To everybody who are experiencing this issue still: If you have UAC disabled, enable it and or alternatively download and run this troubleshooter to fix it for you.

  • Tried every possible variation of enabling/disabling UAC. It. Did. Not. Give. A. Single. F**k. Issue is still there and happily ruining my game.

  • @tmshero

Still have this issue. any update?

The only fix that works, is to kill your explorer.exe, that's literally the only thing that helps me.

    -Press CTRL-ALT-DELETE
    -Go to Task Manager
    -Press options at the top
    -Check: Always on top
    -Start up your game
-Open Task Manager, go to 'Details'
-Look for 'explorer.exe' and end that process (NOTE: you cannot alt+tab when explorer is disabled, you need to reactivate that in order to be able to do that and switch out of your game.)

Everything will still run in the background, so let's say you're on Skype with someone, ending explorer won't end the call, you can just play like normal.

    Reactivating explorer.exe:
    -Open Task Manager
    -Press 'File' at the top
    -Select 'Run new task'
    -Type in 'explorer.exe'
    -Press OK

Everything should now be back to normal, so just keep in mind that you need to launch explorer.exe again after you close the game.

This is a brilliant idea!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

  • @xpvtx How to start the game without explorer.exe? I tried to shut down explorer.exe when game was running but can't go back to the game after that...
It is so ridiculous, before 26.03 windows 10 updates I didn't have any problems with the game. I was getting around 50fps,now its locket at 25fps at same settings. I'm getting nervous

not sure, mine seems to work fine, the only issue i have is when i look up or down(all the way) my screen darkens as if im actually changing my monitors brightness, i can see it happening but the shadowplay recording doesnt show it, so im really confused whats going on'

  • @s-v-e-j-e-d-a-n @s-v-e-j-e-d-a-n I found solution for my bad FPs.
I opened a new topic so just go to https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/46800/sot-full-screen-definitive-problem-solution

  • @borsza You need to make sure task manager is always on top, that way you can just kill explorer.exe while in-game and you should be able to just get back into SoT.

  • @tmshero MY problem is solved, you don't need to kill explorer.exe- if yours problem is similar to mine (caused by two monitors)
Now the game runs at 40-50fps with maximum settings (on gtx670 I73770k,16Gb ram)

  • @borsza It was fixed for me somehow, no clue what caused it but they might have finally solved the issue.

  • @xpvtx I try to do this but I cant go back to my game after i've killed explorer.exe
the only way It works is if i kill .exe while the game is windowed.

  • @tmshero when I close .exe it works but i cannot alt+enter to go into full screen im still stuck at a windowed version any ideas?

  • @nighthawk9342 Try adjusting it in your settings, that might work
