Topic. Its hard and I think I have ocd
Ask someone who has spent 5 hours in the character creator and has yet to play more than 5 minutes anything. (Still in the character creator)
I spent about an hour-ish with two favorite pirates that I wasn't completely happy with, but I would be content with if I chose them. Could not find a pirate half as good as what I ended up with, so I settled for one of my favorites. Which-she isn't that bad given the choices I was given. I've seen characters with literally a jaw that could maim someone, it's so pointy.
My goodness, I would give anything just for that one you got. Over two hours now on the generator. I know what I want to, I have seen parts of it in countless different toons. Never on one. I did get really close once..... then it smiled at me. Not one tooth. Eventually I will find it or refund it. Hoping it's the first one.
@lvl100-mage looks better than most of the other female characters and i also spent some time choosing a character fit for me
They should have at least asked a few questions at the start.... like a gender, maybe a hair color, maybe a preference for a certain quantity of teeth.
That could at least save me a lot of spinning through stuff that is not even close. It would also be nice if every pose and animation had a part where they smile.
For those who may not know, there is a pirate delete feature.
From the Crew Select screen, there is a settings option. There will be a prompt to confirm. All progress, items, and gold will be wiped. Your gamertag stays the same. So, you could bookmark some pirates on the IPG. Pick one. Then logon a solo sloop and see what your pirate looks like in-game.
If you don't love your pirate, just delete him and repeat the process. The IPG is godawful. I wasn't fond of it during the tests, and I despise it now. It's beyond me why adding pointless gambling elements to a character creator seemed like a good idea. I've deleted three seperate characters so far and eventually settled with the fourth. It sucks that I feel no attachment to my guy whatsoever.
its alright, i know the feel. its called the paradox of choice and was propably overlooked by rare. they should have putt more research into this xD
i am serious . this IPG thing is paralyzing.
i had like 5 or 6 pirates as favorites and franticly refreshing the last 3 slots at times.
i deleted 2 pirates til i settled for one.@capt-explodabob especially in a game where you're supposed to 'forge your legend as a pirate' why can't we just customize our character so it is OUR pirate?
@saladbrains What gets me are all the PR friendly excuses they give. I'd like to know the real reasoning behind this. My money's on the way that the clothing automatically adjusts its design to the different character models. I wouldn't be surprised if they painted themselves into a corner with one feature which meant that they had to set their own parameters on character customisation. At least that's what I want to believe, because the IPG is so unintuitive.

The generator was literally making me want to rip my hair out. I got some pretty good looking guy avatars, but I normally never go for guy avatars so had to say goodbye to them. I hope they eventually add the option to change our hair color. Dyes use to exist back then, so it wouldn't be "lore breaking". Sorry to hear about the missing teeth! That was a problem I was encountering too. If they at least added an option for a body-type range and a preferred gender, then I'd be happier with the Russian roulette thing.
Also...Its a game about just buying cosmetic stuff... If Im gonna spend 50+hours on my pirate, I have to like how he looks. If not, its all pointless. And im not talking about ugly, im talking about small body huge head, elf ears, eagle beak nose on a skinny guy...some random generated pirates are disproportionate and look weird.

@shaggiedo My beta character was on point.
See ther you go, there is good in everything, not to mention that silver lining.
Yeah not as upset at the random generator as I am they didn't give just a few options. Like a gender or a hair color, to narrow it down, less pgdn. Right now half the people of every 8 are just a waste of time if you have any thought of what you want to play. Worse that you know it exists because you have seen the parts over many other toons.
The IPG is awful.
That should be an option. I'd be happy with at least a few set parameters to choose to get a character close to me:
[GENDER]
[AGE]
[BUILD]
[RACE]
And then cycle through random variations of that for faces, scars tattoos and hair colours, etc.Right now 90% of what I see is completely redundant to me, and the few that match remotely are so few and far between it's ridiculous.
@careless-turtle Yea I'll be deleting my character soon and trying again. It's really putting a damper on my enjoyment of the game. Cosmetic items are no fun if the base character model isn't up to your expectations.
I deleted my character again... 17 characters. I have yet to play because when I find one, I get a hair and it glitches...or a beard that looks really bad because the shin is 12 feet long... Im getting desperate. And yea... Everything is cosmetic so sticking with something you dont like is impossible
Since I don't ever see my own character, I thought I'd give my crew mates something hideous to look at...... and I got there pretty quick.
(no pic right now as I'm "working")
