One day you stop at the Gold Haulers Tent and find that he's offering a special commission for daring pirates willing to take great risks. He offers a Long Voyage to the Shadow Coast where an ancient and mighty Zombie King protects the wreck of a treasure ship filled to the rails with shiny gold! The cost for the map isn't bad, so you buy it.
-
You unfurl the map on your table and, what's this? It tells you to stock up on supplies and head for the eastern edge of the Sea of Thieves. You're intrigued and slightly worried. There lies the crimson sea of tears, but the map can't be wrong. You load up on extra bananas, planks and cannon balls and point your ship to the east. Soon enough your sailing through the blood red waters of the edge, but instead of the ominous sound of cracking timbers and rushing water, you find yourself coasting through impenetrable fog and the scene fades briefly to black....
... then fades back. The fog recedes and you find yourself on a new map, looking at a long stretch of fog shrouded, jungle covered shore with dozens of islands, bays and rocky peninsulas. Not only that, but your supplies are severely depleted. In fact, it appears you have completely run out of bananas, and every member of the crew has lost health. -
When you check your voyage map, you now see a more familiar spot marked on the coast. In deference to your starving crew, you stop at a haunted village, fight off the cannibals guarding it and restock on bananas (or coconuts?). One of your crew is hit with a cursed dart and begins to lose health. No one knows how to cure him. Only later will you realize he could have been cured by filling his tankard at a sacred spring and drinking the water. He eventually dies and his body rises as a zombie, attacking all those around him with the same infected bite. Thankfully, he’s dispatched without spreading the curse.
-
Once more on course for your goal, you next come across another ship on their own Long Voyage. Seeing they're headed in the opposite direction, you decide to let them be, and they return the favor. Nice pirates!
-
Eventually you find the rocky bay where the wreck doth lie. From the dark waters spill all manner of foul zombies and skeletons, climbing aboard your ship and casting nets and spears that hamper your movement. When they are defeated, the Zombie King himself, draped in the armored bones of his enemies and wielding a mighty, saw-toothed spear emerges! The battle is glorious! Many die, but you are eventually successful. Diving down into the treasure ship's wreck you bring forth many chests, skulls, trinkets and crates, along with the Zombie King's jewel encrusted crown and Cursed Chest (Watch out, it infects anyone who carries it!)
-
Now back to the western edge of the Shadow Coast map. Along the way you battle the other pirate ship – those b@s#@rds were just waiting for you! You are successful in a repelling action and send them to a watery grave. Once more into the mist to reappear on the eastern edge of the Sea of Thieves. Too bad you forgot to restock for the return voyage. Again, the crew is near death and you’re dangerously low on planks. Still, you just manage to make it to the outpost, with a hellish tale to tell and a boatload of booty!
The Mechanics
Shadow Coast is a side-by-side server using the already existing merged server mechanics. There could be a different map for each edge if the devs get ambitious (please get ambitious!)
Sea of Conquest (Capture the Flag, battle royale style area)
Royal Sea (Imperial threats and ships of the line. Fat merchant prizes.)
Etc, etc.
