Creator Spotlight - Loki and Leator

Double your fun with this dedicated pair of pirates who make up ‘Die Unterhosenbrigade’!

In this instalment, we turn the Creator Spotlight onto two charismatic content creators who are as inseparable in the game as they are in real life. Their camaraderie and creativity have made waves across the community, establishing them as well-known troublemakers across Sea of Thieves' social spaces, not least because of a certain pant-related petition. Join us as we dive into the exploits of Loki and Leator, and discover what makes this pair the perfect partners in piracy and beyond. Let’s meet the Underpants Brigade!

[Q]: What was your introduction to the world of games?

[A] Loki: Our journey into the world of video games began over three decades ago. Leator’s family always had a computer and he learned how to start games on MS-DOS before he could read or write. His first game was the original Prince of Persia. When the Game Boy came out, we both got it as our first game console, and my first game was Super Mario Land.

We’ve played many different games over the years, before we met each other during the closed Titanfall Beta on what was then the newly released Xbox One. By pure luck we met in a random Xbox Live Party, and strangers became friends.

[Q]: How did you become part of the Sea of Thieves community?

[A] Leator: Before we became part of any community, we mostly played Sea of Thieves together by ourselves. We were interested in the game since its initial reveal, played the Alpha and of course played from day one. After ‘completing’ the game up to a certain point, we took a two-year break, coming back with the launch of Xbox Series X. That’s when Loki started streaming the game.

After a year, the German Affiliate Alliance Community asked us to stream their monthly events. This was the first time we felt like we were part of a bigger community and started to look beyond our little Sloop.

A part of something bigger: Loki and Leator truly found their home on the Sea of Thieves.

[Q]: How did creating content become your ‘thing’?

[A] Loki: Soon after I met Leator, Microsoft's Upload team contacted me. They had seen my video clips, which I didn’t know were online and public. They liked my little experiments and invited me to be a featured Upload creator. This gave me cool opportunities, like going to Gamescom with Microsoft’s team. That’s when I also tried streaming on Twitch, because I like the interaction between chat and streamer. However, I stopped making content during the last part of my studies to focus on my future, only to circle back to it when the Xbox Series X came out.

[Q]: How do you decide what kind of content to create?

[A] Loki: I personally started streaming horror games, which is still my favourite genre to this day and still part of my weekly streaming schedule. But the majority of each schedule is a co-creation.

Together with Leator I founded the Underpants Brigade, our crew and ‘brand’ name on the Sea of Thieves. If you’re playing for as long as we have, you automatically start finding and creating your own challenges, hunting down Commendations, records and milestones. And because we almost never play off-stream, our ‘normal’ gameplay mixed with a huge portion of humour and over-the-top bromance automatically becomes our content.

The Underpants Brigade goes strength to strength, even recruiting Mike Chapman at SoTFest ’23.

[Q]: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced while creating content?

[A] Loki: Usually technical issues are the one thing giving us headaches. But thankfully we have each other and some very dedicated community members to help us out, like when one of them helped us with a new and interesting way to show the health bar and ammunition anywhere we want.

But something more specific to our co-creation: Because we live several hours apart from each other, we have to be well organised and logistical about our streaming setups. Especially when we are doing a special stream, like our couch streams or the cooking stream we did when Sea of Thieves: The Cookbook came out.

[Q]: What different channels do you have?

[A] Leator: Naturally, you can find us on Twitch. But remember, we're a dynamic duo, like Batman and Robin. With Loki being the charismatic face of the streams we‘re using his Twitch channel, where he also streams his other content and I‘m mostly present on the social media side for the Underpants Brigade like Twitter and Instagram. So, come for the streams, but stay for the shenanigans!

[Q]: What’s been your most memorable Sea of Thieves moment so far?

[A] Leator: During our almost four years of streaming Sea of Thieves, we’ve had a lot of great moments, both in the game and in real life. One of the best moments was becoming Sea of Thieves Partners in March 2023. But also the other memories we’ve created with the community. In 2022 we went to our first SoTFest, not knowing what to expect, but we had such a great time meeting amazing people that we always look forward to going again. (SoTFest 2025, WHEN?)

In the game, one of Loki’s most recent memorable moments was when the Underpants Brigade became the first official Lootless Pirate Legends! My personal favourite memory was playing Tall Tales with THE Mike “Chappers” Chapman. It felt like watching a Mickey Mouse cartoon with Walt Disney himself.

Loki and Leator have met the team many times, quizzing them on the game… and Obsidian Underpants.

[Q]: What do you enjoy most about the game now, and what are you looking forward to in future?

[A] Leator: Even though Season 11 launched months ago, playing different Trading Companies still feels rewarding again thanks to the increased level caps. But also the return of our Lord and Saviour, King Flameheart and his new flagship, got our gameplay routine turned upside down.

For legal reasons we have to say that we are looking forward to the Obsidian Underpants the most.

[Q]: What’s something you’re particularly proud of accomplishing in gaming?

[A] Loki: As mentioned, recently we became the first Lootless Pirate Legends, which took longer than we anticipated, honestly.

But over all those years we had so many special accomplishments that it is difficult to single one out in particular. Like, we held almost all Athena records as a duo Sloop for a long time, we won the Gold Hoarder Challenge at Gamescom 2022 and a very funny one: we convinced Aaron Greenberg (Xbox Marketing) about the importance of the Obsidian Underpants and when he visited Rare in 2023 he asked about them!

Loki and Leator are regulars at gaming events like Gamescom, especially if Sea of Thieves is present!

[Q]: How did you come up with your channel name?

[A] Loki: Pretty easy, it’s my gamertag. But that’s a story for the next interview.

[Q]: What do you like to get up to when you’re not streaming?

[A] Leator: As you can imagine, working full time while also streaming almost full time doesn’t leave much time to spare that we don‘t spend with family and friends. But in the few moments we have, Loki spends his time doing sports and I prefer socializing or haunting Jo from the Community team on social media. And last but not least, we both love listening to music.

[Q]: What advice would you give to a new content creator?

[A] Loki: Never make earning money your main goal. It’s a lot of work to get to the point where you will earn enough to make a decent living, or it may never happen at all! Just have fun with what you are doing. Your viewers and your mental health will thank you.

Loki and Leator stay true to themselves to have fun with their content, the game and the community.

[Q]: What’s one thing you would advise a content creator not to do?

[A] Leator: The biggest mistake you can make is not being true to yourself and trying to copy someone else. Because eventually either your facade will break and undo everything you’ve worked for, or you will burn out.

[Q]: Could you give us one more random fact about yourselves?

[A] Leator: Surprisingly, Loki has wanted to learn to play the saxophone for years now, but never found the right time to start.

Loki: It’s pretty hard to get rid of Leator, he just sticks! He’s been together with Sasje for almost 20 years now, and our friendship has already surpassed the 10-year milestone.

Thanks a bunch to the troublesome two for answering our questions – here’s to the next 10 years of friendship and sailing the seas, and we’ll look forward to whatever quirky questions and props they bring along to us at the next event!
