Community Spotlight – KeepinitTwisted
A wonderful thing about Sea of Thieves is the huge variety of creators we’re lucky to have across so many different areas of our community. Many of them have not only taken to the seas, but built up a brand and community of their own around the mischief they get up to.
In our latest Community Spotlight is one such creator who describes herself as ‘blow on the cartridge and hit the reset button’ years old, so please excuse us while we turn to dust. Then enjoy catching up with KeepinitTwisted…
[Q]: Can you tell us a little about what got you into gaming?
[A]: ADHD was not a diagnosis when I was a kid, and unlike my siblings and cousins, I was excessively hyper and had trouble focusing. However, one thing that would draw me in and help me focus was gaming. I began my gaming journey with Super Mario Bros. on NES. Once I beat the game, I began speedrunning it in different ways. I think I was maybe in fifth grade at the time. Long before I knew what speedrunning a game was!
[Q]: Were you a Rare fan before Sea of Thieves? Do you have any favourite Rare games?
[A]: Before Sea of Thieves, I enjoyed many of the Donkey Kong Country games and R.C. Pro-Am!
[Q]: What other games are you currently playing? Any favourites?
[A]: Sometimes you might catch me playing Fortnite or Palia! However, I am currently trying to 100% all Factions in Sea of Thieves so I am generally on Sea of Thieves daily.
[Q]: What brought you over to Sea of Thieves and its community?
[A]: Someone who I wanted to play a game with only had Xbox and at the time I only had PlayStation 4. We found that if we downloaded Sea of Thieves, I could play on PC and he could play on console. Soon after, I found out more about the lore of the game. After my first playthrough, I came back to complete the Tall Tales with some members of the community I had met from my chat. This was just before the addition of the Fort of the Damned. Before I knew it, I was hooked! I am even attached to my pirate!
Twisted took time to explore the game’s lore and find firm friends in the community.
[Q]: You’ve built up a wonderful community around streaming Sea of Thieves – what has been the highlight of this journey for you?
[A]: Through my journey, I have met so many amazing people and many have become friends IRL. This group of friends are like an extension of my family for me. I have undergone significant life changes throughout my time in this community and they have been there for me through the highs and lows of it all.
One of many memorable examples of this was shortly after becoming Pirate Legend, when I suffered a bilateral pulmonary embolism while live on stream. During my recovery in hospital, I would hang out in Discord with some of the closest friends I have made and they would keep me laughing and positive through it all.
[Q]: Do you ever have a plan when you set sail or do you just go where the wind takes you?
[A]: I used to plan my sails but quickly realised that if you aren’t flexible with any set plans, you might miss out on some of the things about this game that make it special. You never know when curiosity might get the best of you and you’ll begin to explore the map or find new ways to keg a ship, tuck on a Fort or run into another crew who are new to the game and need help with a Voyage or a World Event.
[Q]: You’ve been involved in several community events and projects over the years – does anything in particular stand out for you?
[A]: I had the opportunity to participate in the Boomer Games three times. I appreciated the chance to develop more PvP skills. What also made this special was spending time with Flitter133 practicing for the event. Both of us were very new at PvP, but what made this special was the rewarding feeling we had that we worked so hard and we held our own during the competitions. Now I consider her a close friend IRL and it all really started with this event.
Every session brings new experiences, and every pirate brings new opportunities!
[Q]: Thinking back, are there any standout moments for you in Sea of Thieves since you started playing?
[A]: You mean I have to pick just one? I will never forget my first encounter with a Megalodon. I was streaming and our Galleon was attacked, and when I saw how large it was my jaw dropped. Before I knew it, I was tossed overboard when it attacked. I panicked! I was so scared I actually started tearing up, both from fear and laughter, as I fought my way back onto the ship. Looking back it was so silly, but in the moment it was hilariously frightening!
[Q]: What are your favourite recent additions to Sea of Thieves?
[A]: The Hourglass dives have been a lot of fun. I still have a lot to learn about PvP in the game and I feel like win or lose, I learn more about skills and techniques. My philosophy is that I learn from every sink, so it's always a win for me and I never take sinking all that seriously which is why I think I enjoy the Hourglass addition so much.
From PvP to #SoTShot, Twisted’s achievements across the seas are many and varied.
[Q]: What are your greatest achievements in a game, Sea of Thieves or otherwise?
[A]: Getting that Gold Curse was everything! I don’t think I took that Curse off for two years! Also, when I completed The Reaper’s Bones Emissary, it sparked a fire to become this insane completionist. I quickly began the hunt for that Legendary Hunter of the Sea Title, turning in all 2100 fish required. I have since completed Gold Hoarders and Order of Souls and am currently working on Merchant Alliance. I am 95% finished with Athena’s Fortune too. Above all this, my PvP skills have greatly evolved and I surprise myself nearly every time I run into PvP on the seas!
[Q]: If you had to choose a pirate and ship name, what would they be?
[A]: If you know me, you know I LOVE the Giant Panda! My current ship names are…
Sloop: The Knotty Panda (because little pandas are into everything and don’t listen)
Brig: Panda Express (because it goes fast!)
Galleon: Panda-Monium (because when I am on a Gally with friends we go wild and create an uproar!)
Everyone knows my pirate is Twisted.
With smiles on and off the seas, Twisted is a beacon of light in the Sea of Thieves community.
[Q]: What kind of other hobbies do you enjoy outside of gaming?
[A]: Working two jobs to support my youngest daughter and I leaves little time for hobbies outside of gaming, but I am lucky that I enjoy gaming for a living. For now, I enjoy spending any free time I have with my adult children and granddaughter when I can!
[Q]: Share a fun fact about yourself. Anything is fair game!
[A]: I participated in the American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb five years in a row to honor my mother who passed away from COPD. I climbed 53 floors in the Renaissance Tower in Dallas, Texas, each year beating my own time racing to the top!
