Sail on a Sea of Love This Valentine’s Day!
It’s that tenderest time of year again, folks – when passionate pirates declare their undying love for the special sailor in their life. Or hastily grab some flowers from an island on the way home and frantically cook a fish; whatever floats your boat. We’re never ones to miss out on seasonal festivities, so we’ve prepared some romantic goodies if you’re looking to impress this Valentine’s Day, or if you simply want to share the love with friends and family.
Our chief Sea of Thieves Valentine’s offering this year is the latest musical release, a rousingly piratey rendition of that lovers’ ballad ‘It Had To Be You’, belted out by our very own Senior Audio Director Jon Vincent. Whether you’re serenading a beloved first mate or crooning at your favourite pet, no-one can say you aren’t giving it your all if you sing it like this. You can stream the track from your favourite platform now, or enjoy our special accompanying video together…
We asked the good Mr. Vincent for a few words on how this opportunity came about:
“Some days you just have to pinch yourself and check that this isn’t a dream. It all started when our fantastic musician Chloe sent me through a lyric sheet and the bare bones recording of the crooning classic already sounding lovely. After jotting down the lyrics in a notebook, I turned off the computer and assembled my ‘vocal booth’ – a hastily erected, duvet-covered contraption.
“Knowing as I do how much of a stickler for perfection Chloe is, I crooned away for an hour getting a load of takes. Apparently the cat looked a bit concerned outside my home office door as the Bristolian-flavoured tones emanated through the house. Then I assembled all the takes into the correct place under the original tune and handed it back off to Chloe to work the rest of her magic. Thrilled with the result – and it’s simultaneously sorted out one of my Valentine’s Day presents!”
Over on our social channels today, there’s no shortage of romantic goings-on to help you share the love with your crewmates. We’ve got two special Sea of Thieves Valentine’s cards among a fresh Rare batch, some delightfully lovey-dovey picture frames to immortalise your Valentine’s Day moments, and even our own Valentine’s Quest Board for those looking to share their loving messages with the world. Whether it’s a note to your favourite freebooter, your bestest pet or a rival you both hate and love in equal measure, it’s all one huge nautical love-in.
For those looking to grab some in-game goodies to mark the occasion, February’s content update added new cosmetics to the Pirate Emporium including the passionate (and time-limited) Reaper’s Heart Pet Bundle as seen at the top of this page, and the scorching new Ashen Curse Alsatian. Flaming dogs are the new roses – it’s true, look it up. If the time is right, you could even pop the question and stage an in-game ceremony using the recently added Wedding Party emotes! Of course, there are free monthly emotes to be grabbed from the Emporium too, but the most recent ones – Something Stinks and Throw a Strop – are perhaps less suited to amorous endeavours…
The Valentine’s Day collection on Rare’s online store also pulls together a heaping helping of romantic merch gathered over time, from art prints and cards to T-shirts. It may be a bit late in the day to send a card at this point, but if you say it got lost at sea you might get away with it (probably not though). If you’d prefer to pick up something with a little more bite, the latest Lunar New Year additions might be for you, tiger.
If it’s free content that gets you hot under the collar, don’t forget Sea of Thieves’ first new story-driven Adventure ‘Shrouded Islands’ will be running from February 17th to March 3rd, building on the world changes introduced in the latest update, and all players are welcome to get involved as a new era unfolds!
Alright, that’s enough love for now – back to our regularly scheduled programming of steering a ship while drunk and shooting at other crews. We’ll even do it while dining out on all this discounted Valentine’s chocolate! If you’ll excuse us…
