Over the past several months I've been working on all of the fishing commendations for Hunter's Call. It feels like after Season 9 dropped that the rare variant fish are even more rare. Previously if I was having a streak of bad luck it might have taken me an hour and a half or two hours to find a single rare variant fish. It seemed like the average time for me to snag one was probably every 60 minutes, give or take. Over this past weekend I was fishing for a Muddy Splashtail and it took me about 4 hours to find the single one I needed. I was 100% focused on that one fish and wasn't reeling in anything else, so that was 4 hours of casting, pulling out when it wasn't a Muddy, then casting again just to get one fish. Now over the past few days I've been fishing for Ancientscales, and in the course of about 3 to 4 hours of fishing (reeling in a few of the less rare variants along the way) I still haven't seen a single Bone Ancientscale.
Of course I could just be having a really bad unlucky streak and am assuming (and hoping) that's the case, but I thought I'd see if anyone else has noticed anything similar since Season 9. As long as it already takes to do all the fishing commendations, it would be unfortunate if there were some sort of decrease in the odds of finding rare fish variants.
