Please add Ukrainian localization to the game Sea of Thieves

  • Dear Sea of Thieves developers!

I am your big fan from Ukraine. I want to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible atmosphere of adventure that you have created in your game. Sea of Thieves is more than just a game for me. It is a real journey into the world of pirate adventures, where every moment is full of magic and pleasure.

I am addressing you with an idea that, in my opinion, can make the game even closer for many players from Ukraine. In our country there is a huge base of Sea of Thieves fans who admire your masterpiece and actively support the game. It would be great to see a Ukrainian location in the game!

Adding a Ukrainian translation will allow even more people to immerse themselves in the world of "Sea of Thieves" without language barriers, opening up new horizons of pirate adventures for them. This step will certainly strengthen your reputation as a company that cares about its players and strives to make its product accessible to everyone.
    Dear Sea of Thieves developers!

In our community there are unions of translators who will be happy to translate your game into the community: UNLOCKTEAM (https://unlocteam.com/#pll_switcher) and SBTLocalization (https://sbt.localization.com.ua/en/)
Our community left many reviews asking for localization.

  • This would be a significant amount of work, more than a lot of people realise. Lots of countries, nationalities and various peoples would like their languages supported in the games they love to play but developers have a limited amount of time and resources on their hands so they have to simply do what they can. I'm sure they'd love to add language support but it's the same reason they haven't added Welsh or Irish language support for people here in the UK. We can get by using English, people in Ukraine can get by using Russian.

  • So you're talking about a language with a 40 millions of native speakers. And they must either learn the language of the enemy, which destroys any memory of their language. Because the Russians said that Ukrainians are not a separate nation and they all understand the enemy's language as their own. Interesting.

  • I'm joining the discussion about Ukrainian localization in the game again. The Ukrainian language is really needed, and here are a number of arguments in its favor.

    1. Sea of Thieves has an active Ukrainian community, there are Ukrainian Discord servers of the game with constantly online players
    2. the issue of the Ukrainian language is constantly raised by various users on Steam and immediately flies into the discussion tops
    3. The Ukrainian language for Steam is currently in 14th place among all and is 0.68%

First off why bring the war into this? You're just going to start arguments and get the thread locked by a mod. I pointed out the reasoning for a language not being added and the fact that they can manage for now. Oh and it's not 40 million, there's only 33 million people in Ukraine and not all of those speak Ukrainian as a first language the eastern half speaks Russian despite Kyiv's best efforts to suppress it for the last decade.

If they've got time to do it they will, the demand is there. It's money and time at the end of the day and if they can get away with not doing it like they are atm they will continue. Is there likely to be a massive spike sales from Ukraine if they add it? That would be the most attractive thing to the developers to galvanise them into action, public opinion as well goes a long way. Ultimately money talks tho.

The war in Ukraine plays a key role in understanding the importance of adding a Ukrainian localization to Sea of Thieves. Ukraine is not only under direct military aggression from Russia but also experiencing cultural expansion. As a result, up to 52% of the population in the eastern regions speaks Russian, according to recent sociological studies (http://surl.li/vomrck).

However, in central and western regions, 75–94% of people speak Ukrainian. Additionally, 84% of Ukrainians support having Ukrainian as the only state language. While Ukraine's current population is around 34 million +7.8 million Ukrainians in forced migration. Adding Ukrainian localization could attract more players and boost in-game purchases, especially with the right marketing strategy.

  • I played this game a long time ago. I hope to return, gather friends and dive into the interesting history of this world again. Please add Ukrainian.

There was even a community initiative, players want to see Ukrainian in the game, give us this opportunity. Translation can be done by both ordinary players and official studios UNLOCTEAM or SBTLocalization, only with your support.

  • @strugachka Sorry to be that person.

But just how many Ukrainians actually play SoT over other video games?

I don't see myself spending time on video games if my country was actively at war being invaded for the past 2/3 years.

I also encountered a lot more RU then Ukrainians in game and in community's personally.

Keep it appropriate. Avoid swearing in unfamiliar company where possible. Don’t post anything containing NSFW material – this has no place in Sea of Thieves or its community spaces. And while we all have opinions of the world around us, people aren’t necessarily playing Sea of Thieves to talk about politics or contentious real-world issues. Switch off, escape and enjoy the freedom of the seas instead.
