Another Safer Seas Discussion XD

  • Yes I know how often the debate with Safer Seas is brought up and I know it's a highly controversial topic, but I still want to share my opinion here anyways because I believe that everyone's opinion matters.

In my opinion Safer Seas is still just not what it should be. I think that the restrictions that have been added to Safer Seas are just too much and completely defeat the purpose of having a private server option.

I think not being allowed to touch anything reapers is fine as that's a purely PvP focused faction and that makes total sense. I also think that not being allowed to activate or do the Fort Of The Damned is also perfectly fine and makes sense as well. Same goes for not allowing emissaries, they are still technically a PvP option since level 5 reaper emissaries can see all other emissary ships on the map (yes I know some will disagree with me on this one).

But in my opinion only being able to reach level 25 in each faction is ridiculous and unacceptable. Same with not allowing players to reach pirate legend and unlock access to the pirate legend hideout. Also in my opinion I think Athena voyages should be allowed as well, as they are PvE voyages and have never involved any form of PvP (unlike reapers). Oh except for the Athena Voyage for the skull of destiny because that voyage is PvP focused (as it allows players to activate the FOTD PvP focused world event) and makes sense being blocked.

I think that players should be allowed to reach a maximum level of 100 in each of the factions in safer seas (except reapers obviously). This would allow players to unlock the vast majority of the PvE content, but wouldn't allow them to go past 100 into the distinctions so they could earn everything except for the rings (which are made to be shown off in PvP).

Also players should be allowed to use captioned ships in Safer Seas, this would give them the ability to sell all of their loot to the sovereigns, but they still wouldn't be able to use any guild ships or raise a sovereign emissary as those would still be exclusive to high seas.

I also don't think it's fair at all to restrict access to Athena voyages from players who don't wish to partake in PvP.

There's enough PvP only content in the game that even with these lower restrictions players would still have tons of reasons to go into high seas. Guilds would still be exclusive to high seas, same with sovereign emissary and emissaries in general. All of the reapers bones content would be exclusive to high seas, along with the FOTD. The hourglass factions and all of their rewards also only available in high seas. Distinctions and rings also only available in high seas.

Oh also I think the Fort Of Fortune should also be allowed in Safer Seas (forgot about that one XD)

In conclusion I believe that players should be able to have full access to ALL of the PvE content in this game in Safer Seas. All world events (except Fort Of The Damned), all factions (except reapers bones), all voyages (except the PvP one for the skull of destiny), use of captained ships and the ability to sell loot to the sovereigns (except for guild ships and sovereign emissary), ability to unlock pirate legend status and gain access to the pirate legend hideout and Athena faction & voyages (again except the one for the skull of destiny which in my opinion shouldn't even be an Athena Voyage and should instead be a reapers bones voyage since they don't have any voyages and that would make a lot more sense being a reaper voyage than an Athena Voyage).

Now what I think it should be and what others think is obviously very different, so I will say that I think if Safer Seas AT THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM allowed players to use captained ships and sell loot to the sovereign, as well as be able to reach level 50 in all of the factions that are available in Safer Seas so that they can unlock access to the pirate legend hideout and unlock pirate legend status but not be able to actually do any of the Athena voyages or get any Athena loot in Safer Seas and have to go into high seas to do any Athena stuff, that this would at least be acceptable in my opinion and definitely better than how safer seas currently is.

I'm sure plenty of people are going to have their own opinions on this and I welcome you to please share them here, but do keep it civil and don't use any unnecessarily harsh or vulgar language plz & ty.

  • In short.

Make SS similar to HS and become a pve server

  • @m1ke-da-1ke

Entire point of Safer Seas is to get used to the game so you can move over to High Seas when you have the basics down. Not sit there for hours and grind alone. Hence the limitations on the companies and the more "high end" world events.

(Not counting people doing TTs and playing with kids on SS)

  • The chest of fortune should never be available on saver seas, as the sole purpose if it is to be fought over.

Also adding captaincy makes no sense for Saver Seas.
In my opinion the milestones that come with captaincy, should represent the time spent and feats achieved in the actual game and not the 100% riskless saver seas.
Its also a good motivator to hop on high seas, thats probably why its not available in saver seas.
In addition to that, why do you need to save time with selling, when you already save time by not fighting any real players.

Saver Seas is in a good spot, right where it is now.
You get 100% gold (way to much in my opinion) and can get all pve commendations, except Guilds and Athena (correct me if im wrong).
Athena is the endgame faction and therefore putting it in saver seas makes no sense (thats also why pirate legend is of limits).

I hope you'll soon find it fun to play on high seas, but until then youll have to deal with the restrictions.

  • The game design and intent for Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure, and it always will be. Those who wish to play in the confines of Safer Seas will always have the option but we will not bring the rewards and activities in line with those of High Seas when many of the restrictions are in place due to the risk vs reward factor that is inherent in Sea of Thieves - removing any risk means rewards must be balanced accordingly.

Safer Seas will act not only as a safe space for our Tall Tale players but also for families with children who just want to pirate, for people who want to play the game but learn the ropes and it will organically feed into Adventure mode, keeping the player pool there healthy and upskilled as they've learned the mechanics.

This is not only useful for new players but also families and players with accessibility needs - the whole game suddenly becomes available in a way it hasn't before, letting them naturally progress to High Seas and become a Pirate Legend. SoT has grown a huge amount in 5 years and it can be fairly overwhelming.

The borders put in Safer Seas mean that to experience the full depth and breadth of the game you will have to hit the high seas BUT if you're playing with your family you don't have to, you can just enjoy the game and have fun as a family.
