If you’re not going to consider a safe zone, you need to do something about chases that last for hours.

  • I don’t know what the answer is, but what I will say is that chasing, or being chased for hours is the opposite of fun.

I’ve seen enough people complain about it on Reddit that it’s pretty clear that it’s a problem.

I don’t think you guys have been successful enough with your initial vision for this game to close the door on any possibilities, but if safe zones are off the table...give us some other options for ending chases that don’t end in people sailing off the map or going on a tour of every outpost for drive by turn-ins.

EDIT: I’m aware of all the strats, I’ve been in the preview program for over a year. I’ve played tons of hours of the game...none of your strats are difinitive answers to the problem, they work sometimes...and other times they don’t.

So I ask again...if random community strategies don’t always solve horribly long chases, and a safe zone is not an option...to the Devs...not the community...how is this going to be solved...if you are going to solve it at all?

I need to know...because I don’t find it fun...and if you aren’t going to solve it...I might not want to stick around too much longer.

  • Chasing and getting tired of not catching up? Stop.
    Being chased? Keg.

IDK what the problem is tbh.

  • @sense-field

...sinking the other ship has worked for me 100% of the time.

Try turning around and fighting instead of running like a coward? Maybe put yourself in a location where you have the advantage, such as near rocks or shallows.

You could go for anchor pulls if it's possible. Me and my crewmate gets away most of the time using that.

  • Why? If they wanna chase that is their time to waste, if you don't wanna fight or try and drop off loot then that is on you. I like making people chase me when they think I have something, waste their time. And boy sometimes hearing them get p****d they wasted 2 hours on a sloop with nothing on it, well that is priceless!

  • I play solo quite a bit and never had a problem being chased. I don’t know where this comes from.

The minute I turn into them and land a couple shots and they miss me by miles I tend to scare them off.

Also learn how to drop off your items at an outpost without stopping your ship. Mermaid abuse is your friend when getting chased..

  • here

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/49401/chasing-other-ships-a-frontal-cannon/13

  • The length of a chase is decided by the determination of the chaser and those being chased.

  • The game is working as it was intended. Sounds like you wanna play something else

  • While doing a skull fort, successfully thwarted off several attempts by multiple sloops. Easily done with technique and communication.

While getting chased as a Galleon.... why am I running? Can I not engage? I am on a Galleon with 2 people only? You have nothing to say then.

If getting chased by a Galleon as a sloop, go upwind bird brains.

If getting chased as a Galleon as a Galleon ...why is that happening? How did you or the crew not see him in time? Treasure Fat? Too bad I say. Sink you and your hours of time because you werent watching or paying attention. Lesson learned... that is the game.

Thats a problem not with the game Mate, but with the Mates in the game.....

  • @nwo-azcrack [Mod edited], this game is the most UNBALANCED game i have EVER seen...Gallions ramming docked sloops and killing solo players like fish in a bowl, 4 man crews are the REAL cowards, that dont dare face off against other 4 man crews, so they [Mod edited] with the solo players, now those this sound like fun to u? then [Mod edited], im sick of these kind of people, lolligagin' around, greifing other players, i pre-ordered from windows store so i cant even refund this [Mod edited] game! now for anyone who feel the need to defend the game/rare/the gallion griefers, be my guest...but now this, this game will sink, and i truly hope that it does, because these type of games, they only end up the same way, filled with toxic people, bullies, adults who pick on other people for "thier amusment" for [Mod edited] sake! to [Mod edited] with this game, to [Mod edited] with this toxic community, TO [Mod edited] with any and all who is too blind to see what this game is. one day i hope to see a game studio who makes amazing FREE content without p2w, no microtransactions, no pre-order, only good people who make good games for good people, the toxic race we see in every [Mod edited] game needs to be executed, THIS is my thought of this game, THIS is what this game turned me into..good day.

  • @themustamissed But.... you will waste 2 hours of your time too. In this 2 hours you could make a lot of gold.

I dont agree with a hard safezone too. But I think the game needs some kind of karma system. If you kill a player close to an outpost you will loose karma. Less karma = less gold from traders (because they dont like sinking their trading partners). In this case you still can kill people, but theres a penalty for it and it will prevent people from carry too far

  • @templaratlas
The game is fine. Its just not for you. And i wasnt being mean, just honest. The game will not fail because the real fans know what the game was before release and we love it.

  • @templaratlas man, i think you need to take a break from video games in general. or at least ones that involve PVP.

  • @templaratlas Yar! It's true! This community is pretty toxic! If I don't like their road map for content I'm following you out the door

  • @my-dirty-muffin
The community is not toxic tho.. its a pvp game. Killin others and taking their stuff is the name of the game. And its working exactly like rare planned.

  • @TemplarAtlas Please refrain from personal attacks and swearing on our forums, as both are violations of our Forum rules. You are free to have a negative opinion of the game, but posts are still required to be respectful and free from personal attacks and swearing.

  • @sense-field Get good at the game and you won't have this problem. Stop posting toxic feedback to the devs.

  • @themustamissed

I can't even imagine what someone thinks might be on board, after chasing someone for 2hrs, that would be worth more than just questing for 2hrs themselves?

If I'm feeling like PvP, I'll sail close enough to a ship to see if they're game. If they sail on, I ignore them. If they fire, it's on.

  • @sense-field one guy jumps off your boat, he catches ladder on enemy boat, waits for the signal,

then you hand break turn and blow the ever living day lights out of thier ship and THEN your sleeper agent climbs up and kills them while they try to board up and get rid of water.

    strategy man!

  • @happy420pirate

When I’m being chased...it’s because I don’t have enough mats to fight...used up defending a skull fort or in previous fights.

Why do you automatically assume that I’m a coward?

I feel like you’re part of the community problem behind this game.

You can’t fathom the idea that there are different types of players out there that have different needs and wants from you...so you just resort to calling them names.

  • @raging-spork

Doesn’t always work out...but we have done that before. Can’t always count on a coordinated team...my friends don’t play this game anymore...so I have to rely on randoms from LFG.

Oh that’s a great post...you’re so insightful. I’ll go get good. Thank you for the feedback...I don’t know what I would have done without your great comment!

  • @nwo-azcrack If rare had spawnkilling and outpost camping..mixed with a bit skull fort b.s (killing people and they keep coming back for more nonstop) then they mad a awful game... when I think Be more pirate. I think of none of those...

  • @templaratlas

I'm not so sure the games intended population has really taken over yet.

I'd give it another month or so.

Those who still think this is a 'hardcore PvP game' will be back in their ESport games soon.

    ;)

  • Why would anyone want to be chased or chase for that period of time? You're spending time that could otherwise be used to gather loot. Scuttle or quit and reset. Or get creative to pull their anchor and mermaid back to your boat. I'm not willing to chase anyone longer than 20min. The cost/benefit just isn't worth it.

  • Aim your ship so it isn't hitting land. Jump off, board the enemy ship, drop anchor and f em up. If your succesful killing them and screwing with their day, then jump off and mermaid back to your ship which is now a mile ahead. If you die, respawn on your ship and then try it again. You basically get an endless amount of lives to keep trying this against an enemy chasing you. Maybe try using the mechanics of your game to your advantage instead of being a baby about it.

  • @sense-field Explosive barrels, knowing how to navigate around your surroundings, and planning ahead should help a lot.

How am I being a baby? Does anyone in this forum have the ability to discuss a topic without insulting other people?

What is wrong one with you that you need to call others names?

That's the part of the risk you weigh when engaging on a fort. Also, if someone saw you leave the fort after seeing the skull disappear, yeah, they're definitely going to chase you. Why wouldn't they?

  • @templaratlas Thank you for the laugh.

  • @sense-field i hear you on that.

    well you can add me.

Tell me something who decides if its a waste of my time? Me or you? If I thought it was a waste of time I wouldn't do it. And lets get real here, playing a video game at all is a waste of time. So many other things we as humans could be doing. So again, my point still stands.
