The Next Bilge Rat Adventure...

  • Anyone else a bit wary of what the next Bilge Rat adventure may be about? There was the mention of the Reaper's Mark, and Joe Neate's statements about using it to introduce cursed cannon balls into the world - which, I thought, was the purpose of this event.

Will we be hunting other players for commendations? Will the Sea of Thieves become incredibly violent as other ships hunt you down for two weeks so that they can hit you with cursed cannonballs?

I really hope so. All the Bilge Rat and dlcs so far have been 100% PvE oriented to the point you require teamwork from strangers and that's a challenge sometimes it will be great to get some PvP themed events! It's what a lot of the community want.

  • They said you won't know you have a CC. The first person to know will be the one who gets hit with it...as far as I understand it.

  • @violentandroid

Hmm from what Joe said about looking forward to seeing how these are used in game and the shenanigans, I get the impression we're going to find them within the world?

Around 3:20 Joe talks about the next Bilge Rat Adventure -

  • @dunkachino1124 But, we've already learned that skellies don't understand the concept of bailing. ;)

  • @ve111a As with other PvP suggestions, I'm not a fan of rewarding PvP for the sake of PvP. This is a move against, what they claim to be, an important aspect of their vision for the game - why they don't want bounties, for example. It's just odd. But, we don't know exactly what it is yet, so - as with everything in this game - we have to adopt a wait and see attitude. But, if folks are going to be incentivized to hunt me solely for the purpose of hitting me with a cursed cannon ball, I likely won't be playing for two weeks.

It's not that I'm against PvP - I engage in it, myself... but, one of the things I've enjoyed about this game is that it is tied to theft (in terms of reward) and there is no reward solely for attacking a ship or a player.

There still are 2 sides to this game and they want it to be fair and fun for everyone. It's PvPvE . The PvE fans have gotten spoiled with lots and lots of great content and now the PvP crowd want's their turn lol. They will do it right they typically do, I just want more incentive for PvP all this practice had to be worth something.

  • @ve111a There is one side to this game - a shared PvPvE world. That concept ties the two groups together around a unified theme: theft.

  • I am all for more PVP. But I do not like the thought of cursed cannons balls in the hands of players.

Exactly PvPvEand there are still to sides to that coin. People want more PvP content and achievements so it has more of a purpose aside for robbing and having fun. I just want everyone to get something they are excited for and this will do that.

  • 2 hour long dance lock until the crew scuttles/leaves the game here I go, I hope that I can make as many of you angry, I seriously do. Gonna be my revenge.

  • @katttruewalker exactly. I can't watch it again atm, but I was under the impression it would be gathered as any other cannonball, but the holder would not know the difference until fired or possibly loaded? So you can't just farm CC and sort them in your barrels? Idk. Haha

    Let's hope they don't learn...

  • @ve111a You think this will end up being fun? Perhaps for those on the delivering end. But, if this is set up as I fear, and it is, indeed, about hitting other ships with cursed cannonballs - there will be little skill involved. People will gather cursed cannonballs and camp outposts waiting for a ship to spawn in - roll up, hit it. No skill involved. And, while it may get giggles out of the people firing said cannon ball, the new spawn on the receiving end will just be annoyed.

Camping outposts for kills will be the norm if PvP rewards are put in place. And, if this game officially becomes Sea of Thugs, I'm out.

But, that's an "if." We'll have to see how this plays out. I'm just expressing my wariness based on what's been mentioned by the devs so far.
