Rare and their bad spelling

@musicmee beat me to it. They spell things funny across the pond. They probably say the same about us yanks, but the point is...they're not wrong. They're just British. :D

As a ‘Murican, I would hate for them to lose the British flavour.

It’s not a different language, it’s a different dialect. It makes sense to translate to different languages, not from English to English.

DayZ recently did something similar with their Xbox trailer by giving the characters American accents (a southern drawl, even) for a game set in a fictional Eastern European country - with street names in Czech.

It’s just weird.

You are a school teacher? That is awesome, and I thank you for doing what you do, even though I did horribly in school... and I do mean horribly. haha. I was gifted with teachers that understood my situation and let me do things on my own, or later in life do my work on my own time and spend class-time maintaining computer labs. :)

However, teaching can be a rough calling and I commend you for doing it. :)

I learned about British spelling by reading books in English class. People still read English Literature, yes? It's still taught in schools? Are there no workhouses?

Another sore point for me. The present movement to translate Shakespeare into modern English. UGH!! Don't get me started.

@galactic-geek They’re using perfectly proper English. Are you saying Americans are so dumb we can’t understand a few alternate spellings? Or is this simply another case of demanding the rest of the world conform to our ways of doing things for our comfort and convenience? People around the world play Sea of Thieves. Many of them live in the U.K. Why should Rare ignore those customers and change their dialect for the comfort of those in the U.S.?

This manner of oblivious arrogance is why the rest of the world thinks we’re nuts.

And, I'm not an English teacher, either. In fact, I'm not a teacher at all - hence... my point.

...and for the record I personally call it old English because it came first and is still, in fact, older than American English - not because I'm trying to be technically correct.

No I misread his response I think. At first it looked like he was comparing America to British rather than to Britain. Which makes no sense. But either he edited it that fast or I’m losing my memory and just completely read what he wrote wrong.

Doesn’t matter! I was just being a wise guy, I’m not trying to contribute to the statistic of people who get overly technical on a forum.

I honestly don’t think it matters, since Rare is a company from across the pond, they probably have a right to use that spelling.

I really wish you guys didn't dump our tea, we could've got past this learning error when we taught the americans..

Haha only kidding, though I get what you're saying for the non-american audience but the vast main feedback comes from the British team and the devs which are all British themselves so it's hard to have an american outlook with a sole British vocabulary.

So you are familiar with African or Mandarin spellings of those words? Albeit far more similar, there is no reason he should be familiar with British English spellings of those words...

You are taking things a little too literal. The state of education is defined a lot less by this than it is by the other spelling mistakes all over forums and social media sites all over the Internet. There are far worse things out there than someone not being familiar with another form of their language.
