Does the Megalodon... Kraken 2.0

  • Have any loot drop or is it another bullet sponge annoyance like the kraken?

Edit: The biggest critique circulating the forums right now relates to the lack of replayability causing content to become stale

How is it possible to have two of the more interesting fights in this game be nothing more than a hindrance to a the gameplay loop, rather than a welcome addition to it? We have three enemy types.. more than half of the enemy types have no reason to fight more than once. Does RARE play this game?strikethrough text

  • No, I think it's like kraken bro

  • @gloog

Following the patch notes, it doesn't seem to have any reward. The only rewards you could get was during the Hungering Deep event.

The journey is the best reward!

  • @gloog but worse! This one chases you lol

Would you seriously argue that two monster boss fights shouldn't have any reward..?

  • @gloog bragging rights.

  • Your reward is living a day longer :p

But it would be nice if you got a tooth from every megalodon you kill, so you can attach it to your ship.

Maybe you can exchange a certain amount of teeth in special items, such as a swivel gun, would be nice, but we will not see this yet :)

Definitely. Not to mention that they aren't really boss fights. There's no such thing as a boss fight in Sea of Thieves.

Would it be nice if the Kraken gave you some sort of reward? Frankly, maybe just "Kraken Slayer" as a title after killing it a bunch of times. Other than that, I feel the Kraken is there to make the sea more vibrant, scary and alive. Same goes for Megalodon. Sometimes it screws you over, other times it helps you by attacking the ship that is attacking you. Enemy of my enemy is my friend type thing.

  • @captainnscurvy And getting to keep yer loot!

    Yes, yes, I would.

  • The award is you can keep your loot if you survive

  • @murkrage Skeleton Captains be kinda like a boss fight...

  • It stops people from farming servers hunting for the meg/kraken - just for the rewards, not the experience - while still allowing it to be free roaming and a frequent occurrence.

  • @skulliah "The journey" its fine and fun, but u need to look at the bigger picture a small scale off the people like this. Go check out reddit forum about sea of thieves. u have alot off "Fanboys" in this forum they like to blow kisses to rare, and if u have any type of critism u get a slap on the wrist from the @Deckhands on this forum with no communication to them to discus it.
Yes the deckhands rule this forum and if they see something they dont like u get the hammer, or they remove ur message even if u blur out the bad words. Its kinda sad but hey ill go over to reddit. Goodluck out here.

They are not really two boss fights. They are there to help you make your own adventures.

During the Thrones a sloop was following my Galleon and got caught by the Kraken. All my crew and I swam to help them before they sink. We killed the Kraken together and had a good laugh. That's an example.

Seriously, the SoT Sub is the saltiest place on the internet.

The Deckhands don't rule this forum, they won't ban you for something that they don't like. They'll ban you if it goes against the community guidelines, though. Deckhands actually support healthy discussions and some of them engage in these discussion themselves.

Even if you blur out the bad words

Here's what the forum rules say about this:
"Swearing is not permitted on the Forums and a profanity filter is in place to block it. Attempts to bypass the profanity filter will result in a temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning. If the action continues, a permanent ban from the Forums will be issued."

People even have a problem calling them bosses. Sheesh.

A Kraken skull drop would not take away from this in the slightest.. daddy RARE wants to be lazy, daddy RARE gets to be lazy.

People that want to farm are already doing it. And farming a random spawn.. c'mon now, let's be more objective. Calling the kraken an experience after the 5th time? I want more out of you @Musicmee 🙃

Plus, it's currently possible to tank the kraken and leave after 5mins, compared to staying for triple that.

  • Maybe they will do some sort of event for the kraken. Then we’ll get like a kraken set or something cool like that.

  • Game needs penalties and costs, not more rewards.

  • @sloompie The SoT sub is a primarily a collection of users trying to one-up each other over how critical they can be about the game (and anything else someone mentions). It is not a good sample of typical players. Users from that forum often get upset they don't receive the same support and social cred for their unending negativity when they jump over here to gripe about something new.

  • In six months time, when RARE fleshes out the kraken/other monsters into a rewarding experience, the forums will be singing praise on RARE for following feedback.

@Musicmee its really bugging me if you were being genuine with me ☹ or just championing the status quo. Can you really farm the kraken right now? Do skull fort server hoppers lessen the experience for you when you do a skull fort?

I've been following this game since 2015, I'm as keen to see added content and a richer world as any other pirate afloat.

Suggestions, discussions and new ideas are great to read and join in with - we Deckhands have plenty of ideas of our own too -

However, you will be held to account if you break the Forum Rules or the Pirate Code.

  • @ghostpaw
This is a complete lie though.
Reddit is an incredibly PC forum and complete [Mod edited] for anything even remotely "negative"(aka criticism, which is by the way the only thing which actually improves things), since people will get downvoted and get the post hidden.

You are right about this forum though, since it's way worse when it comes to it's neverending "positivity". This forum is so plagued with blind fanboyism and mental gymnastics it stifles all constructive criticism.

  • @gloog said in Does the Megalodon... Kraken 2.0:

I would say they lessen the experience for everybody, not just those who do skull forts.

  • @drunkpunk138 it was a 2 part point quote. Anyway you can't farm the Kraken in the same way though. Not adding a Kraken eye and a Meg tooth "because server hoppers" is intellectually dishonest.

  • @Gloog
Why do you want a reward though? You cannot even actively hunt these creatures.

Seriously this game doesn't need more rewards. There's no risk to anything, since there's no cost and no penalty to anything. If the game had actual penalties, the kraken and Megs would be way "scarier" because they could be the reason for making it or not.

There's just no thrill in this game, because your ships are practically immortal and even if you go full sudoku, you still lose nothing.

I would like it if they were more prrdictable so we could use them as traps for other crews

So when the kraken pops, I don't think 'well there goes 20minutes plus wasted supplies'. Or, I actually fight it rather than wait the 5 minutes to escape out of its ink. All it needs is a Kraken eye or meg tooth.

I agree but that's not the OP so take it to another thread. The Kraken and Meg would need actual mechanics and actual AI to become scary. My suggestion was merely to stop it from being a borefest, skippable, and worthless event.

  • @captainnscurvy That is exactly what we need! Maybe harpoons can help as well. Kraken could've given us a figurehead as well but i believe they will add another event for that. Something like "Beneath The Black Sea" or something like that.
Other than that, there is no point fighting these monsters, they don't even give a little bit of money for our services which essentially we make the seas safer for the 3 factions.
    I could use some money.
    Give... Gold! pls?

This is a complete lie though.

Of course it is. And the claim this place is filled only with sycophants is also absurd.

  • In a game driven by cosmetic rewards, not getting any reward even is just gold for defeating these creatures is a missed opportunity imo, especially for limited events. You could easily have them drop teeth, fins, etc that can be traded in towards unlocking specific cosmetics, or to sell for gold. Don't think for a second that not long from now, the new sharks won't be viewed as much of a nuisance as the kracken currently is.

What about skeletons? Do you need a reward for them? I mean, skeletons are complete pushovers and they are always "in the way". I guess they should give a reward as well right?

It's entirely relevant. The threat of Meg and Kraken is other players in combination with the encounter. You cannot make them any stronger, due to the impossibility of surviving them when faced with another player(if buffed that is).

    Strawmans are cool.

  • @gloog said in Does the Megalodon... Kraken 2.0:

@drunkpunk138 you can't farm the Kraken in the same way though. Not adding a Kraken eye and a Meg tooth "because server hoppers" is intellectually dishonest.

Fair enough, my comment was more directly related to what I responded to than the overall discussion. The two-part nature of your question doesn't diminish the truth in my response.

I personally don't really feel there is a reward necessary for these encounters. I view them as a potentially added disruption between activities. Particularly interesting when they occur during combat, or some other non-ideal time, as it adds a lot of tension to the experience. I don't get the mentality that every event or encounter or activity must provide a reward in this game. Sure, big content events it makes sense. And I get giving incentive for doing those multiple times to a degree. Some threats in the world, though, should simply be an addition to the experience. Perhaps if they ever flesh out the kraken to more of a real fight, I'll understand a reward (would especially be cool if they implemented the whole cosmetic reward with kraken parts thing they talked about ages ago). Until then I just don't really see why it's needed.

I'm sure this'll get dismissed as "blind fanboy" feedback because it's easy to dismiss opposing opinions in such a throw-away manner, but seriously most kraken encounters result in simply sailing away from the thing... the baby meg isn't even aggressive a portion of the time. I don't see how these things warrant a reward.

  • @gloog Wow. I cannot believe that Rare ignored one of the topics that has garnered the most feedback, the lack of a reward from Karen, and made the same mistake with Megan.

Fighting Karen is simply unfun after the first time. It's a waste of resources and time. The only time it is somewhat fun is when you are running from another ship and it adds pressure to a high intensity situation. But even still, she becomes annoying.

Adding a reward to both will make the encounters so much more fun. Knowing that you have the opportunity to gain something makes the encounters feel special since you can't really seek them out. It becomes an "Oh boy! Here's my chance!" moment.

    I'm a little disappointed Rare...
