Galleon speed hack

    Hey something something happened to me just today, me and my brother were on a sloop with full wind blowing even a wind horn blowing at the sails. A galleon started following us from like 3 nm-s and they caught up to us in less than 20 seconds. They jumped over anchored our ship took no damage in combat and then they sinked us and took our loot. I am a pretty old player at this game and I have seen the speed update but it was never like this. If anyone can help me solve this issue or just figure out how could they catch up to us so quickly?

    U.I.: As I saw it their sails weren't even in wind. :(

    @margit-atya Consider the possibility that the gally had a horn of fair winds as well. You can hit two sails on the same time in a gally with one of those things.

    I’ve only seen a ship “speedhack” once, and it was obvious. They were also using every cheat known to man. Luckily, I recorded it and they were banned based on my reporting. In the report I described all the things they were doing, including the bit where they zoomed off twice. Note that this was before the wind horn. I can’t say if their boat speed played a role in the ban considering how many other things they were doing. I haven’t seen it since but it wouldn’t surprise me if I did.

    Edit: I should add that when I saw this it was right before the horns were going in, so someone could have tapped into existing though not yet implemented code, or whatever…

    @margit-atya if your on a sloop and trying to get away from a bigger ship; DO NOT GO WITH THE WIND the bigger ships have more sails and thus catch more wind and speed in that direction, go against the wind

    Not really if you set the front two sails in the right angle in a gally you can get them both full billow with a horn from the helm.

    Yep this is right, go against wind with sloops. The only way bigger boats can then catch you is with winds shell.

    It's always good to get a wind shell early on in the game, best tool in the box for getting away from bigger ships. It's also great to use a wind shell and go through storms to get away from ships, the wind shell will make going through a storm quick and easy!
