I have been following this game since the original announcement a few years back at E3. There has been a lot of talk about a dedicated PVE mode. There has been a lot of talk about "spawning too far" after sinking... guys, come on. If you have ever played the Division, then you know how their Dark Zone works. Sea of Thieves is essentially a great, big Dark Zone. That's what it is. They have been completely transparent about this from day 1. I appreciate the game at it's core. Sure, it needs more content, and more variety, but lets not convince them to take things away! We need it to be bigger. We need it to include more mission variety. We need it to be more of what it is! The game has been out for what... 2 weeks? After 2 weeks, my crew can counter almost any other crew. It just takes practice. If you're getting trolled, then get good. GET GOOD. Learn how to place your ship and turn so that your cannons can hit them from any angle. We should be taking pleasure in ruining trolls, not crying about it on a forum. Or just go play something else, there's that too. That is, assuming people don't want to have to practice or get good at anything. The ship could be considered another character in the game – an extension of the crew. It should be challenging, and it is. Rant over.
Rare has been transparent about what this game is
@beattywhite I wouldn't call that a rant. It's more of an outlook.
We have such a diversity in what players like and don't like, it's impossible to fix for everyone. Some like PVP, some don't.
Rare was very upfront and introduced the framework of a game of exploration that clearly includes a PVP element. They won't be changing that and I am glad.
I'm not great at PVP, but love the feeling of looking over my shoulder when I dig. Cashing in even 1 chest and being able to avoid other players gives me satisfaction. What's the point of a reward if there is no risk?
The new spawn system is appropriate. If you get sunk, you lost. To the victor goes the spoils. The old spawn system stunk because it allowed a crew who lost to return and fight a boat quick with depleted supplies while they had fresh supplies.
Getting good in this game takes time. I recommend those who play bad to watch how some of the big streamers do it. I've learned tons of tactics. I use cover and concealment to avoid other boats. I sail into storms when being chased, I do donuts over and over which makes my sloop difficult to hit while I try boarding action. I always carry TNT with me just in case. It amazes me how many times I successful detonate it under a boat that tries to pester me.
Rare has made a gem, and most of us know it. I know they will be adding in more stuff soon, like a Kraken raids, deadly Mermaids encounters, and hopefully more.
I want more danger, more perils, more reasons to lose my stuff, so that when I do turn it in, it feels glorious.
I have just 1 request, let me customize my boat in a way that no one will ever have my look.
