Your Ship is Your Home, so why doesn’t it feel like that?

  • We need more things to do on the boats between voyages. And new systems on board the boats to use. The Harpoons and Fishing helped with this immensely but I still think it needs work. Here’s a list of things I want to add to the ships. Feel free to add more or dispute items on my list.

    1. Working tables and chairs: the tables would be barrels and the chairs could be boxes.

    2. Card and Dice games to play on said tables and chairs: think of a system similar to RDR2.

    3. An expanded Cooking system: adding a soup bowl similar to the hunters call that we could add all types of food into.

    4. Hammocks: you could rest in them to gain health Slowly. Very slowly. Or some sort of more creative buff that I can’t think of.

Edit: a part of this idea was stupid so i removed it. Thanks for the feedback.

    1. Make the captains cabin on the Galleon and Brig more interesting and interactive, like being able to blow holes in the windows, and being able to use the chair. And flesh out the sloops back portion a little more.

    2. Make the vast amounts of unmarked spare barrels able to be filled.

  • Btw if they were ever implemented the Hammocks would probably be retractable to save space when not in use. As well the captains beds in the brig and galleon would also function as hammocks.

  • Why? Because they're temporary - after all, nobody likes watching their home sink.

  • @galactic-geek For you it's temporary
for us with long game session, It's a Home or canvas that tell a story when you are done for the day.
Have being sailing around for 12 hr in the same ship, an sunk everyone trying to sink me, it was more planks than a boat at that point.

But I would love if you could use the chair on the gally.
some mini games: card, dice an so on.

  • @galactic-geek
Even though they may be temporary some of us actually care for our boat. You boat is the only thing in the world that you actually own other than your weapons and items. So why not be able to have more stuff to do on it. As well your “argument” has nothing to do with the contents of my post and only addresses the title. None of the things I suggested are persistent and only add to the journey of sea of thrives.

  • @greencamillion1
Lol, yes sometimes I think my boat is more sawdust than wood.

  • Great idea, I love it, I think card games should definitely get added, I think it should be in taverns as well.

  • @greencamillion1 said in Your Ship is Your Home, so why doesn’t it feel like that?:
it was more planks than a boat at that point.

Aye, we have had a fair few ships that represent pin cushions from the outside after longer sessions without sinking!

  • @ender-enderson the tables in the tavern being usable would make them useful again. They would probably make the tavern a genuinely fun place to be in if card games were added.

  • The title absolutely nails how I feel. Something as little as a place to sit and eat or play games would be nice. I also recall a really good suggestion regarding sparring swords, wouldn't mind a few of those on board. =)

  • @xbus6
I agree with all of this except for the hammock. Rare thought about adding sleeping, but they decided it felt weird that people would need to sleep before anything. Also, I think cards/dice should just be another item in your inventory to make it more player made.

  • @xbus6 said in Your Ship is Your Home, so why doesn’t it feel like that?:

    1. Working tables and chairs: the tables would be barrels and the chairs could be boxes.

Sure, why not. This is super low priority though.

    1. Card and Dice games to play on said tables and chairs: think of a system similar to RDR2.

Heck yes, this would be awesome, assuming no actual exchange of gold (to avoid abuse) and a totally organic experience. This is very highly discussed topic.

    1. An expanded Cooking/Crafting system: adding a soup bowl similar to the hunters call that we could add all types of food into.

Expanding cooking will happen eventually I'm sure.

    1. Hammocks: you could rest in them to gain health Slowly. Or it could “fortify” your health bar turning portions of it blue much like the new regency health except that it prevents damage instead of regaining lost health, again however a very slight buff.

This does not sound like a good idea to me. Food exists for a reason. It being the only way to heal is part of what makes it valuable. Also: preventing damage by 'fortifying' you health bar sounds awful. Why reward people who chose to sit around and do nothing in a hammock?

    1. Make the captains cabin on the Galleon and Brig more interesting and interactive, like being able to blow holes in the windows, and being able to use the chair. And flesh out the sloops back portion a little more.

This is basically as low priority as suggestions come, but it's not a bad one.

    1. Make the vast amounts of unmarked spare barrels able to be filled.

This is a balance issue and should be avoided. Galleons become nearly, if not literally invincible this way (by storing wood on the bottom level).

  • Id love a hammock. Though if it was going to heal anything id say a very slow ammount. A risk and reward kind of thing.. but no fortifying. Food already does that and makes cooking needed.

  • @xbus6

"An expanded Cooking/Crafting system: adding a soup bowl similar to the hunters call that we could add all types of food into."

We don't need to transform Sea of Thieves into a survival game, no thanks. We're already farming enough gathering cannonballs, planks, and foods and fish, we don't need MORE farming where we squish items together in a freaking menu... And if we create entire dishes, what kind of bonuses would they give that the high-quality foods already in the game don't already give? Without breaking the game balance, obviously...

If you want to craft things in a pirate game, go play Atlas.

I agree with the rest of your suggestions, but crafting and expanded cooking? Ugh, no, just no. :C

  • @xbus6 love all these ideas and I really think furnishing a ship should be apart of it to

  • I love the ideas and hate being the bearer of bad news but........ Player/ship interaction is the number one cause of server instability. Maybe we can implement these ideas in a more stable structure like on islands.

  • @hisdarkestfear
    Sparring swords would be cool

  • @duke-of-spire
    Wow, I didn’t know that.
    That’s very unfortunate.

  • @blazedrake100
    Understandable.
And I don’t know how cards in inventory would work but I’m up for that. It would be cool to have the cards and dice as a social tool like the instruments.

  • @wajuwanmekill
    Thank you

  • @ambiguousmonk
Low priority yes. But these little details would make the ships feel much much better. Also, yeah the hammock idea wasn’t thought through and I understand the balance reasons for the barrels. I just really don’t like having barrels that aren’t being used. The table idea was supposed to solve a part of this problem as well.

  • @sweltering-nick
I’m not one of those players. I don’t even like Atlas. What I’m suggesting is that there is a soup bowl on the ship that food can be put into to make a stew. Then when the stew is complete the whole crew can collect a soup bowl out of the bowl. One stew would be equivalent to a pineapples health but broken up into 2-3 parts (like the fish). However the stew would be hard to make to balance this. It would take a decent amount of food, and a mandatory amount of meat to complete. And it would have to simmer for awhile. 4-5 mins seems like a good time to me. Maybe longer.

  • Btw thanks for the feed back guys.

  • @xbus6 I love the stew idea! Maybe use meals for optimum regeneration if cooked right. If you eat a meal you get regeneration for 1-8 minutes depending on the quality of the food. 24 hours divided by 3 meals a day in game time equals 8 minutes max per meal. Use the wrong combinations or under/over cook it and those minutes are reduced.

ATLAS would have been a good game. Sadly the devs really didnt seem to know what they were going to do with the game and changed way too many things way too early in the games life... but anyway i digress. I have no doubt SoT will expand on cooking just a bit later. Its a cool new system. But they have other fish to fry i would think... lol so to speak. (man im REALLLY hoping for that captiancy update at some point. XD)

If we implement crafting into Sea of Thieves, it will already be nearly indistinguishable from Atlas... The only sure way to tell the difference between the two games at that point would be the graphics style.

And what you are suggesting is to make the soup a literal pineapple, mechanically speaking, you do realize pineapples have 2 uses, each, right? So if you have 5 pineapples, you basically have 10 full-heals. And you are suggesting we make soups hard to make, because, why? The soups are already irrelevant because of the existence of pineapples, it would literally be easier to just collect pineapples... Why even bother with the soups?

Even if soups were relevant in your suggestions (let's say we remove pineapples from the game), they wouldn't have any significant impact on anything, whatsoever. So what you are suggesting is, in the end, just to clutter the coding of the game, so pirates can beat around the bush for no reason, other than to indulge in some random obsession with soup which isn't likely. xD

Nobody likes their home broken in. Yet it still happens on a daily basis. You "defend" your irl home too dont you? Make sure your home doesnt sink.

  • @davidbarlow My home has yet to be invaded.

aye I so agree with you I have always wanted to sit in the captain chair in the galleon and to blow holes in the windows

  • @xbus6

Quite simply we need Hammocks :)
A full Pirate crew... whether on a Sloop, Brig, Gally need somewhere to put their weary heads.

edit: like the idea it heals health over time, possibly add in the regen buff as a perk

the hammock I would just love to see my pirate sleeping in it and it would replace the sleep emote and if some one invades your ship that's where they'd be hiding

  • @piratecraggy yes we need business hammocks

  • I agree with the hammock and soup but if there were to be a game system I would want it to be gambling with the in game currency in the tavern

  • @closinghare208 said in Your Ship is Your Home, so why doesn’t it feel like that?:

Aye.. serious work all this Pirating.

These could be added as a cosmetic item too.
All different colours & patterns, for our discerning pirate
Anyone up for sleeping on a Reapers Flag Hammock? :)
