With over 3k hours in this. Since the dummysail and speed changes, it is now near impossible to out sail a brig or galleon whilst on a sloop. Before, hitting the open waters against the wind...golden; now not so much. Even worse with the addition of grapple guns.
Sloop needs a speed bump

Brig was faster than sloop against wind for like 2 years before they finally acknowledged it.
All that extra stuff they did with that change isn't great but a sloop can somewhat outrun a brig now. Def more than before, it's just not directly against wind that allows it.
Brig is still the worst boat tho, as far as being fun to fight goes. Full on running away/strategic evasion is better but fighting it as a sloop is worse.
It would be nice if it were all a bit more skill based to where solos/sloops could escape better against bigger boats that don't sail as well, and where smaller boats could catch bigger boats if they are on the hunt and sail better.
@violentandroid kinda the point, you’re supposed to turn and fight. Sink with honour, cause once they catch up to you… it’s to the cold icy depths with your ship.

Yep, take advantage of the sloops moveability also which helps a lot. There's so many tactics you can use to avoid combat.
Jump off and use fort cannons, go through rocks and tight areas etc. Sloop is still king.

They addressed this. The Brig speed was nerfed.Provided you're not travelling West or NW and copping the speed nerf from the waves, you stand a good chance of them not getting closer.
