New Enemy Idea: The Chest Hermit Crab (aka the Mimic, Treasure Crab, Chest Crab, Treasure Chest Crab, and Loot Crab.)

  • This idea was from a friend of mine, we were working on a Sea of Thieves fanfic and think up things and creatures to add to story to flash out our story. The idea was good, I thought it would be cool if we had that enemy in-game.

The Chest Hermit Crab or better known as the Loot Crab is a species of giant Hermit Crabs that have grown to unless size.

    Chest Crab 6

To quote my Friend: "These crabs have made their homes out of forgotten treasure chests and are well aware of the greed pirates have for their new found homes. So, in acting in spirit of being a cross between a Mimic and a Loot Rat, the second it is grabbed by an unlucky pirate. The creature will strike out defensively before instantly trying to quickly scuttle away to either rebury itself or to just simply escape the pirates that are chasing it. However, these pesky critters have one weakness and that is fire, set one ablaze and it will be cooked alive as it roasts in its chest home. Which also makes it quite the meal for those who can catch it."

  • @vernalwriter370 Interesting concept. Kind of like the Mimics in CoD zombies.

You come across a grog chest & think "oo free loot," only to have it spring limbs and attack you. Maybe once you defeat it, it releases the piece of loot it disguised itself as, plus the crab meat you suggested.

  • Reminds me of a mini Tamatoa from Moana

  • This is an awesome idea. As long as it doesn't impede the current amount of treasure received on average (like it does not "replace" an existing chest you could have gotten) I think this is really fun.

Perhaps if it buries itself, and you can find the buried dirt point (like a player buried treasure), you can try to dig it up again and it will try and scurry away from you again.

Maybe it can be associated with an audio cue so you know that one is in the area, but it might be hiding and trying to wait for you to not be looking and try and grab one of your unsecured chests.

There is a lot of potential with this idea, I give it a +1.
It's just outright fun, and gives PvE enemies an actual threat to your loot aside from sinking your ship. I'm all for permanent additions to Sea of Thieves. This is a good one.
