Option to get more ships on one server (at least for Guilds)

  • Last Saturday, our group of 6 friends managed to get 2 guild ships on the same server. We had great time. Lots of fun. Sometimes we just chilled at the outpost, in next 10 minutes we had to run away from a brig who almost deleted us. Many times we just tried to snipe one another from ship to ship. It was everything you want a guild to be about. Can we please get this as an feature? Because this is imho the reason, why guilds exist, right? To play TOGETHER, right!?

  • There are methods to try and spawn more than one ship on a server but I don't think you are going to see this added as a feature as it would play into the hands of the Alliance server community

  • @the-dohny Rare do not support full alliance servers, and that’s exactly what you’re asking for, so no, they won’t do this.

  • @the-dohny I’m gonna guess that they view this much like an alliance server/PVE server. The game is meant to have an element of danger from other crews.

  • If this was added to Safer Seas, wouldn't this finally stop alliance servers from clogging the emissary boards?

  • @the-dohny If too many ships on one server are in the same guild then it reduces risk and becomes ezmode.

  • @tesiccl

    Why not?
Give people what they want, would also benefit other communitys such as competitive.
Just give a cap each time a new ship is added to the server, 40%-30-20 all the way to only 10% gold cap if you have a full 5-6 ship server...

This is called adapting, not being close minded.

Safer Seas has the potential of being a sandbox toolset in the future.

  • @the-dohny id love to able to start at lest 2 ships on the same server i play with 8 friends the current ways are a pain and time consuming

  • @tesiccl I agree but maybe set a limit of 2 ships and must be part of a guild but the other 3-4 ship slots are either random crews or other multi ship crews

The potential for abuse is obvious. All of the complaints about being killed in X situation would be amplified in a huge way. Do you really want to log into a server that’s allied with the intention of killing you and driving you off the server? That’s what would happen. That, and the flip side which would be pve ez mode. 400 stack fotd? Np.

I agree that playing with friends (in other ships) is great, and actually I’ve done this a few times via various methods (ie; asking someone who’s logging off if we can have their ship, or joining a server over and over hoping to be on the same one).

Also, safer seas is a one ship experience, so having multiple ships isn’t even an option.

Maybe there’s a way to make it not cheese?

  • @ix-indi-xi

    Why not?

Because Rare don’t like them, and it’s their game, not ours.

    Give people what they want

They are. Safer Seas arrives in December :)

  • @tesiccl With all due respect, all games are the player's game, since it is the product we are buying to spend time on. A company can do what they want with the game, but the main factor going into changes and updates comes from the community's reception. If it were Rare's choice, then we wouldn't be getting safer seas.

  • So now solos can be farmed by a guild brig fleet?

    Just no, really, just no.

  • @crowedhunter no because alliance servers will be sticking to higher seas as its all about maximum gold and commendation cheesing, some use quite predatory tactics to bully any non alliance ships out of servers.

  • @whalelordgames Actually you don't buy a game. You buy a license to play the game.

@hiradc But if people can play safer seas with 24 friends for free then why would they want to pay for an alliance server full of strangers telling them what to do? Commendations are on Safer Seas too. So they'd only be getting gold out of it. And yeah, people will probably still do alliance servers, but I think it's a little disingenuous to say that it wouldn't impact the number of people in alliance servers. Safer Seas as it is now is probably gonna take down their population a little.

  • @crowedhunter I think people underestimate the restrictions on safer seas. 30% gold, no emissary or captaincy, no fof fotd reaper or athena. Could work out as little as a fifth of the gold you'd usually make. With fotd being a main function of alliance servers. There are restrictions on some commendations with that too

Also simply the fact that rare want safer seas to be a learning platform before people move onto high seas not an alternative (I know some people will choose it exclusively but that doesn't mean it will be encouraged).

  • @hiradc There is no estimating. I can count+read too and even if I couldn't I'd be lucky there's a youtube video; and as you just described it's very explicit.

I think it's fallacious to expect people to come around to High Seas after I've seen some of the posts from players on here that are coming back exclusively for Safer Seas. Do you expect these people who have already been so thoroughly convinced that to set sail in High Seas is to invite abuse to go [invite abuse]? By your own admission you don't because you said yourself that you don't expect alliance servers to be impacted.

But the fallacy I mentioned earlier is more about expectations and the nature of choice. I know a lot of people don't believe in choice because we all are predictable to a 99.999_% accuracy or whatever. But I think awareness gets ignored because of the outcome not changing or that even if it does, it's as a rejection of the model and therefore predictable. Just because the outcome doesn't change, doesn't mean you can have absolute control; and the things that happen on the way to that outcome affect what paths are available in the future. Choice isn't a delusion any more than death is. Without it, predictions wouldn't even be possible. I think we just want to romanticize concepts like choice and life because it makes us feel like the special animals that we'd have something intangibly extra about us.

Now about expectations: It's okay to set expectations for how people interact with you. Like how Rare is setting the expectation for how people interact with Sea of Thieves. But that street runs two ways. [Many-few/some number] of people have been setting the expectation that they won't be coming back at all unless they can do all the activities. Some number won't be leaving Alliance Servers because they are fixated on that gold and commendations (those people are allegedly a minority of players so to claim them as representative of PVExclusive players is demonstrably false at worst or highly debatable at best). And I think the vast majority of the Safer Seas players are gonna be people who never leave it either because they never get close to 40s with the time they have, or because they belong to this next group. The next group I'm going to mention are people who don't come on here at all because they have already been here in the last 5 years and met with... the forum's population. They already got everything they could ever want in Safer Seas and they don't have anything to say except "Thank you!". I've actually seen a handful of this type actually coming on here now and saying an odd word here and there.

My point is, you can set the expectation that it's a "tutorial". But that only limits what they get out of it, not what they can bring into it.

  • One thing I wanted but am a little reluctant to ask for is that if a guild ship crashes on the same server, it should be displayed on the map with a special symbol and the name of the ship.

The only problem with this is giving an additional tool to the alliance servers, HOWEVER, they already have this tool by using a Reaper flag and communicating, or going to the ferry to meet up, it would just be less work... I don't know Well, it's worth implementing something like this.
