New fauna

  • Since the March 27 update, we've been treated to seagulls following the ship, lizards, bats and jellyfish.
So far as bats are concerned: I've seen some in a cave.
Seagulls: nothing! I did 2 runs (Outpost Plunder / Crook Hollow --- Dagger / Shipwreck Bay and no birds).
Concerning lizards: I saw none, and I did several islands (big ones).
Regarding jellyfish: frankly, they're beautiful but really totally useless: seeing 5/6 jellyfish...... that don't move at all, on not even 1m², I don't think that's great...

When they were announcing a greater variety of fauna on the seas and islands... so that there'd be more life, well in fact it's exactly the same as March 26... if you know what I mean...

I'm disappointed with this update, which I was looking forward to.

  • I had quite a few gull spawns in open sea while I was meg hunting.

I haven't seen the rest yet but it gives me something to look forward to. I just wanna encounter it organically so I'm not actively looking for it.

  • Yeah pretty underwelming

  • @wolfmanbush a dit dans New fauna :

Yes, the fact that you don't necessarily have to look to find them is a good thing. But let's take the example of parrots, snakes, pigs and chickens: you can see and hear them even without looking. We know they're there, because of their sense of “life presence” - linked to visuals and sounds. But if I take only the example of the lizard: it's so small that, well, you'll have to look for it ahahha.
As for the seagulls, I probably didn't stand a luck (even though I did 2 test sessions).
But I come back to what I was saying: in the end, I don't necessarily see “more” life on SoT, although that was the idea behind this update.

  • To be honest, I don't understand what these things are for.
Unable to capture them, the hunter didn't even ask for these things.
    It's just some texture animations.

  • This Update is a Joke.
unbelievable they call this a Feature.
2 seagulls flying for 2 minutes beside your ship.
6 tiny Jellyfishes at one point on some islands that dont really move.
    It is really a Joke...

  • The point of the fauna is to add some ambient life to the game, it’s not supposed to be a huge deal. Also if I saw seagulls EVERY single time I’m sailing, they’d get old really fast. I like the fact that you only get to see the new stuff some of the time, because when you do see them it makes just a bit extra special.

Also 2 test runs isn’t really that much, it’s like flipping a coin twice and getting heads both times, then wondering why it’s so hard to get tails.

Personally I’m a fan of this months update, it’s not supposed to be game changing and huge. Its just a little thing meant to enhance a couple aspects of the game, make the seas and islands feel just a little bit more alive.

Also another part of this update no one is talking about is hunting spears, which I’m also a fan of. It’s an int new tool that I’m gonna have lots of fun messing around with.

  • I saw seagulls. One. Just one lol. I tried to shoot it...

Haven't been into any caves and haven't seen jellies or lizards tho.

  • The issue of bringing more life to the game's islands is not about how many animals we will see on them, but about their behavior, the same thing goes for enemies.

There's no point in having variations of bosses, skeletons or ghosts if they all act exactly the same way. Also, animals, if they always act the same way, everything will seem robotic and predictable, taking away the aspect of life... If the kraken only appears when there are no events and the megalodons cannot be hunted around, but simply spawn for you, they stop looking like animals.

And about the new additions, if there is no interaction with these creatures, what is the point in adding them? They are like those fish in the water that keep circling around, just a decoration, not life.

  • I'd actually prefer if the new fauna is kind of rare. It's fun the first few times, but if there are seagulls squawking every time you're sailing or bats flying out of every cave it's going to get REAL old after 100+ hours. If it's randomized and not that common, it is still somewhat of a surprise.

  • Going to disagree - I've seen quite a few flocks of seagulls, following my ship, a few groups of jellyfish, and one lizard! I do think that they could tune up the frequency of these, to make it SEEM more alive.

Generally, I think this is a cool little QOL update that makes the world feel more alive. I don't think this should be a one-off scenario, however - I think future iterations of fauna would be greatly appreciated.

    Fauna I'd like to see:

    • Various plant life that is reactive (flowers that open/close their petals depending on light, etc)

    • More island/marine life; monkeys, native birds, insects, shark variants (mako, thresher, hammerhead, etc), LARGER jellyfish that do damage (Man O War), large schools of fish, baracuda, sea turtles, dolphins, coral reefs (with starfish, crabs/lobsters)

    • New large threats: (moving crab treasure island) - attacks any pirate that climbs onto the back of the crab, and uses its claws to attack.

    • Sea Serpent/Monster
