A Call for Transparency and Fair Moderation in Sea of Thieves Forums

  • To Sea of Thieves Moderators and Rare Management:

We, as players, deserve transparency regarding why certain posts are removed. Posts are frequently deleted without explanation, leaving players in the dark about why our contributions are being shut down. I fully expect this post will be deleted too, but it’s important to speak up.

It often feels like certain moderators act alongside private groups or friends to dismiss ideas and censor discussions unfairly. Forums are intended to be spaces for open dialogue, where ideas are heard, not selectively erased. Any removal of threads should only happen through management’s clear directives—not at the discretion of moderators with potential biases.

Rare should take a close look at moderator behavior to ensure no privileges are being misused. Moderators should be neutral, maintaining the integrity of the community rather than benefiting certain viewpoints or groups. We ask for fair treatment, transparency, and a level playing field for all voices in this community.

i think they will delete it too, hahahahhah

  • Follow the forum rules and your posts won't be editted or deleted - it's that easy.

  • In general treating forums like a twitter type of platform never ends well.

If you wanna use this platform gotta work within the system of how they do things around here.

If you wanna kinda do whatever you want then something like twitter makes more sense.

One thing that never works on any forum site is a protest. Gotta go through whatever system they have in place. That'll never change on platforms like this.

People push it until they get banned and then everyone just moves on, it just makes sense to not take it that far.

Who ensures that moderators are actually following the rules? How do we know if some moderators are using different gamer tag accounts to say whatever they want? Who can guarantee that a moderator isn’t part of a private community—like a group of 10-20 players on a private Discord server—dedicated to shutting down ideas? How do we know they aren’t being influenced by other games to disrupt Sea of Thieves? Who can guarantee any of this?

  • Your posts are constantly being deleted because you act in violation of the rules. You ignore the criticisms you recieve and also insult others because they don't agree with your ideas.

The majority of posts are not deleted because the majority of forum users respect the rules. You don't.

You are not a victim of the moderators targeting you. You actively go against the rules.

    It's not them. It's you

  • @theredhead5271

I never get upset when someone disagrees with me, but it seems some people have an issue whenever I try to correct my grammar using tools like Grammarly. They always jump on my posts, and I hope you're not one of them. They often approach me with little respect. I don’t have any problem with them, but it seems they have a big issue with me. I've never taken anything from them, yet they respond disagreeably, often without politeness. My posts frequently get deleted—like this one probably will be soon. Can anyone give just one reason why this post should be deleted?

  • I feel like You or someone made a post similar to this very one....
Calling to arms and actions against Mods on the forums because "They did me wrong"

Forums are intended to be spaces for open dialogue, where ideas are heard, not selectively erased.

Strangely, I see a lot of people get upset and call each other names when they simply disagree.

    Moderators should be neutral

and Many if not ALL are very much so.

We ask for fair treatment, transparency, and a level playing field for all voices in this community.

"You" because frankly your only one who seems to be upset. I've seen your posts, and they are always highly negative and half way down, you get very 'loud' in your response. So far as to even get nasty which the mods have to remove.

This here, type of Thread/Post. Is the kind you do not make....it shows who you really are and paints you as a person to not take serious since, anyone who is part of other video game forums knows you dont make "Call outs against people"

  • Sometimes when mods close discussions out, it's more a preventive measure to stop full blown arguments. It's not there permanent job. Stick within the rules, differences of opinions are fine but don't make it personal and the posts remain.

  • @a10dr4651
thank you, DONT MAKE IT PERSONAL !!

  • @seathiever hey just wondering if English is your second language, there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding here.

Have you considered that maybe you're overthinking this a bit? It’s almost like you want to believe there's some secret moderator conspiracy. How do we even know you and @EastThread51441 aren’t the same person just trying to stir things up?

Maybe it's time to go outside and touch some grass.

English is my second language, and when I use Grammarly to improve my posts, some people seem to get upset. They laugh and accuse me of using ChatGPT, like that one unprofessional moderator who always jumps on my posts, saying, “Oh, here’s another one using ChatGPT.” It’s frustrating to face this kind of attitude when I’m simply trying to make my posts clearer.

Moderators in Sea of Thieves should be limited to one account per IP address to prevent any misuse of authority. This would ensure they cannot create alternate accounts to influence discussions unfairly. Rare should prioritize monitoring moderators' activities just as strictly, if not more so, than addressing cheaters or hackers. This way, the integrity of the community remains protected, and players can engage in open, fair conversations.

@seathiever hey just wondering if English is your second language, there seems to be some kind of misunderstanding here.

He’s from the UAE and has a pattern of this behavior across other game forums just by looking up his username. He talks down to people, ignores feedback, and constantly blames developers when things don’t go his way—even throwing in some pretty inappropriate comments. A psychologist might even call it narcissistic behavior; he doesn’t seem to listen to anyone but himself.

  • @seathiever yeah that makes a lot of sense. I do recommend reading the forum rules, they outline why and how posts will be removed. Generally though, a forum member reports the post first and then the deckhands move. If you need help with a specific rule please feel free to ask.

Rare is very transparent on what speech they shut down and a deckhand will usually tell you what was wrong.

That's assuming they have multiple accounts. Which you've given no proof of, other than some vague conspiracy against you.

This would ensure they cannot create alternate accounts to influence discussions unfairly.

You can report mods who you think did something wrong. Hell, a mod even gave you the link to support to do so.
Almost like Rare does hold mods to a certain standard.

This way, the integrity of the community remains protected, and players can engage in open, fair conversations.

The integrity of the community, at a moderator level, is fine. The only people who seem to mald about mod actions are those who broke the rules and cry they were unfairly punished.
Which is common for rule-breakers everywhere I used to mod for, and still the same here.

  • @uluckyhitreg
I don’t mind if things don’t go my way; I just want a respectful reply.

  • There are many responses to my posts that seem suspiciously coordinated, and I believe some of these accounts may belong to moderators’ friends or be alternate accounts. These individuals rarely engage in other threads, which raises concerns about their motives and the integrity of the discussion. I urge Rare to conduct a thorough investigation into these accounts to ensure that all voices are genuine and not being manipulated by a small group to suppress ideas. Fairness and transparency are essential to maintaining trust in this community, and I hope Rare will take these concerns seriously.

  • Before I drop anchor on this thread, I would like to address some things raised within it. First and foremost, community moderators and community managers moderate the forums based on the rules. Secondly.- these forums are hosted and owned by Rare and I can guarantee you that anyone tasked with moderating any space belonging to Rare is extensively vetted and monitored. That said, should you at some point feel like a moderation action was wrong or a moderator/community manager has acted inappropriately, you are welcome to raise a ticket with support regarding your issue/complaint.

    Dropping anchor.
