In 2020 Joe Neate announced custom servers would be going out to a select groups of people like insiders and some creators. This was in 2020 and now 5 years later there is no movement on this why? If you put them in the pirate emporium even those of us that want these really badly would pay for them. Is it Safer seas that complicates things? Because the community has voiced the opinion before that mode is not an answer for wanting to get all your friends in the same server and experience the games world events that you can't in safer seas. Even if you have to can safer seas and replace it with custom servers, I think that would be a better usage of resources than having safer seas there which is just less of the game that you like.
Can we get an update on custom servers ?
I was just pointing out how safer seas is kind of redundant I realize that both of them are different. One of them serves a function that people currently can't do in sea of thieves. The other is a restrictive experience targeted at a very casual audience.
I think custom servers are a bad idea, it will split up the player base too much.
I do think Safer Seas should allow more boats from your guild to join though. But to avoid loot harvesting/farming some things would need to change. It would also very easy with multiple boats. Safer Seas is mainly a stepping stone/warm up/learning areas to go on to High Seas.
@jpskywalker9332 they already run so many private servers for safer seas I fail to see how custom servers would be more expensive than that.
An expanded custom server maker where you could choose spawnpoints, supplies, respawn times and such would go a long way to making good competition again. It’d be such good content to play and watch
If we ever get custom servers in the true sense of the word "custom" I believe the game would enter a period that hasn't been seen since anniversary or pirates' life update. It would be one of those cornerstone updates people would look back on and be like "wasn't that awesome". I don't know what the issue is and it's something I only have a small sliver of hope for, but it would be a very welcome feature just like custom games in halo. Imagine if you could modify player health, run speed, spawn objects, spawn world events or change frequency of certain ones, spawn tall tale items, etc. There's a lot of possibility with a feature like this and they could really allow players to go wild in ways we can't in normal high seas servers. Each update would naturally further what you could do in these servers and the content you would see from creators would be nuts.
