Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen not working in-game

  • So for Christmas I got a new microphone setup - A streaming/studio setup ( Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen ), Before this I used my regular $20-30 microphone and never had any issues with game chat. And now that I got this new microphone I cannot seem to get my game chat microphone audio working at all. When I type in Pirate Chat to my team/enemies it shows on my Player Chat Indicator that I am speaking, (when I have clicked my Push-To-Talk bind) but when I speak into my microphone it doesn't show that I am talking,. The microphone works amazingly everywhere else but SOT is the only game I'm having issues with, I have scoured the internet and tried every fix possible but I can't find many answers and the answers I have found lead me nowhere. I have updated all of my Xbox Mic Settings to my new microphone. Using In-Game voice chat is one of the biggest reasons I enjoy SOT so I would be incredibly grateful if there could be a fix for this issue. Thank you!

Every setting in my computer is set correctly and all of my privacy settings are correct - I have never had major issues until I got this microphone in SOT - so its something to do with the microphone not being recognised by SOT - leading me to believe it's a SOT issue. Making this ticket is a last resort as I have tried everything - would appreciate any support :-)

  • @fx-baor Ahoy matey!

Check out the Further Troubleshooting section in the help article below. These are usually the causes that we see the most!

  • @musicmee Hey, I have already looked through all of these fixes earlier, as I also assumed this was the issue, I believe it is to do with the Focusrite being treated as something other than a mic by SOT, which I don't know how to fix. But I have looked and tried all of these fixes via the link and either have already done them in the past or they havent worked

  • @fx-baor Odd.. As long as your PC is seeing it as an audio device then I don't think SoT should be having any issues.

Do you have the input device set as "Default Communication Device", not just "Default Device"?

  • @musicmee No I didn't. But I just enabled it as "Default Communication Device", but it still doesn't work.

  • 9 times out of 10 it is that "Default Communication Device" setting.... when it's not, it can get a bit more complicated to find the cause.

I have 3rd Gen 2i2 myself but I've never used it directly with Sea of Thieves. I route everything through Voicemeeter Banana (VBAN), which gives me more control over what goes where and allows me to mono the inputs from the 2i2, which are picked up as 1+2 in Windows - this could be why SoT would have issues with it. Not sure though. I route that microphone input channel in VBAN to an Aux output, which I have set as my default communication device in Windows. It's also handy as you can set a gate and compression on the channel.

You could also just check that the samplerate you're using is 48KHz (bit depth shouldn't matter).

If you have an Nvidia RTX GPU, you could also try routing through Nvidia Broadcast and setting that as your default communication device. I used to do this myself, because it's very impressive tech, but there was dodgy update in late 2023 and even when it was fixed, I just never went back as VBAN did what I needed and was reliable.

  • @realstyli THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I installed Nvidia Broadcast and set all of my mic settings to fit for Nvidia Broadcast and it worked! Your a goat bro ❣️

  • @fx-baor

Glad one of my suggestions worked. Happy Sailing!
