The Ferryman is the gaunt and terrifying spectre who commands the ship known as the Ferry of the Damned on its endless journey. Only he can open the portal capable of returning pirates to the living world, and this calculating captain holds that power over pirates who displease or disrespect him.

The Ferryman’s reasons for performing these duties are unknown, but recent events have shown that passage aboard his ship is merely the last phase of a much longer time spent in the Sea of the Damned. Here, pirates spend time contemplating (and often reliving) events from their past before finally being granted passage when the Ferry comes to call.
